TOURISM and retail players announced yesterday the first month-long city-wide sale in the Philippines that is set from March to April 2014.
The Big Davao Fun Sale was announced in yesterday’s press conference called by the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier.
In a briefer, the month long event will offer sale for different products weekly, to wit: March 16-23 for health and beauty products; March 24-30 for electronics and gadgets, March 31 to April 6 for home appliances and travel, and April 7 to 16 for active lifestyle and fashion.
DOT assistant secretary and DOT regional director Arturo Boncato Jr., in a statement said this is DOT’s response to the city’s growth in retail industry. It is also aimed to improve the image of Davao as a destination for business and investments.
“We invite tourists to come here during the event since Davao City in one of the few cities in the country that have stores that are not yet found or unique from those in Manila and Cebu,” he said.
Participating malls are Abreeza-Ayala Malls, Gaisano Grand Mall, Gaisano Mall of Davao, Gaisano Mall of Toril, NCCC Mall, Robinson’s, SM City Davao, and SM Lanang Premier.
This is also in cooperation with the Davao City Government and the Philippine Retailers Association while Cebu Pacific is their official airline partner.
“Cebu Pacific will also be offering seat sales to so those who want to enjoy the event. We will be announcing the sale in the coming weeks,” said Michelle de Guzman, Cebu Pacific assistant manager for Corporate Communications, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao on Friday. Cebu also announced its new route, Davao-Bacolod, yesterday and it will begin on January 25, 2014.
