Sueselbeck deportation a ‘win-win’ situation–military

Marc Sueselbeck. AFP FILE PHOTO MANILA, Philippines — The deportation of Marc Sueselbeck, the German fiance of slain transgender Jeffrey “Jennifer” Laude is a “win-win” situation for him and for the military, an official said on Friday. “Tungkol kay Sueselbeck that is win-win situation, sa amin gusto naming makamit din yung aming gusto na madisiplina dahil sa kanyang ginawa,” Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc, Armed Forces of the Philippines Public Affairs Office chief said. (About Sueselbeck, that is a win-win situation. As far as we’re concerned, we also want to discipline him because of what he’s done.) The military filed a complaint against the German fiance of Laude after climbing the fence more than a week ago, to get near Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton, the US Marine suspected of killing Laude. He is being held at Camp Aguinaldo although under US custody. “Napakatindi ng kanyang ginawa. Nananawagan sya, nag-apologize siya at nakiusap sya dahil mawalan sya ng trabaho dahil sa pagkahold sa kanya at naintindihan ng chief of staff ang kanyang sitwasyon at bilang pagbibigay rin ng humanitarian considerations ay hinayaan na lang syang hindi kakasuhan,” Cabunoc said. (What he did was terrible. He appealed, he apologized and he made a request because he was going to lose his job after he was stopped from leaving and the chief of staff understood his situation. Out of humanitarian consideration, no case was filed against him.) Last Sunday, Sueselbeck was prevented from leaving the country because of a deportation case against him Read More …

INQUIRER FILE PHOTO MANILA, Philippines–The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) suspended the implementation of its order integrating airport terminal fee in the cost of international airline tickets. In compliance with the order by the Pasay Court, “the MIAA is hereby suspending its implementation,” it said in a statement. The integration, based on Memorandum Circular No. 8, should have started November 1. But several overseas Filipino groups asked the court Tuesday to stop the order. Migrant Filipino workers are exempted from paying terminal fees and the integration order would nullify this benefit. The Pasay Court issued Friday a 20-day restraining order against the MIAA memorandum circular. It has set a November 17 hearing to determine if the restraining order will be made permanent. The corrupt senate

The Senate leadership is being pilloried once again. At the receiving end this time is Senate President Frank Drilon. He was charged with plunder before the office of the Ombudsman in connection with the construction of the alleged overpriced P700 million Iloilo Convention Center. Drilon’s co-accused are Tourism Secretary Ramon Jiminez Jr and DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson and two others. It was reported that Drilon conceived and arranged the project as early as 2012 and pumped P200 million from his PDAF allocations given by the DBM. The ongoing construction of the convention center is being done by Hilmarc’s Construction Corporation, the same company that built the controversial and overpriced Makati carpark building, which is the subject of a current senate inquiry. The plunder charges against Drilon and the two cabinet secretaries of President Noynoy was filed by Manuel Mejorada, former Iloilo provincial administrator. The complainant said he has documents to show proof that the bidding was rigged and that the rules on public bidding were not followed. Drilon however denied as usual any wrongdoings, claiming that the complainant used erroneous data to make false charges against the Iloilo Convention Center Project. This is not the first time that Drilon was accused of corruption. Although he was not charged in court, he could not prove how his stepdaughter was able to purchase a multimillion property at North Forbes Park. By the way, Drilon’s stepdaughter works as an employee at Starbucks somewhere in Metro Manila. She was getting paid in dollars. But Read More …
