MANILA, Apr 28 (Mabuhay) – The Department of Justice on Monday gave arrested businessman Cedric Lee until May 8 to file his counter-affidavit to the P194.47-million tax evasion case filed against him by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Lee was escorted to the DOJ early Monday afternoon by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation for the preliminary investigation of the case.

Lee and his friend, Simeon “Zimmer” Raz, are detained at the NBI following their arrest in Oras, Eastern Samar on Saturday on the serious illegal detention charges filed against them and several others by television host and comedian Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro.

State prosecutor Alan Stewart Mariano said that, aside from the request of Lee’s lawyer for more time to prepare his client’s counter-affidavit, the absence of the BIR at Monday’s proceedings prompted him to allow the extension for the businessman to file his reply to the charges. (MNS)
