Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr.’s legal team on Tuesday denied thwarting the deportation of a South Korean national who had allegedly embezzled funds from a firm in Korea.

In a statement, Assistant Secretary Jed Eva III said the Office of the Executive Secretary’s legal office had in fact junked Ja Hoon Ku’s plea against his deportation.,

“Mr. Ja Hoon Ku filed an appeal with our Legal Office questioning the deportation order issued by the Bureau of Immigration, and he was allowed to stay in the country while his appeal was being reviewed. The appeal has since been denied,” Eva explained.

Earlier news reports had said Malacañang supposedly ordered the South Korean national’s release upon orders from Ochoa.

Last March, the Supreme Court (SC) halted a Manila court’s earlier ruling that ordered the Bureau of Immigration to release Ku, and transfer him to police custody.

Ku is the the subject of a notice from the International Criminal Police (INTERPOL) for allegedly spending the reserve funds of Phildip Korea Co. Ltd. — DVM, GMA News
