Friends of the Cerritos Library Fall Book Sale

The Friends of the Cerritos Library will hold its fall book sale this month in the library Skyline Room, with a special members-only sale to be held on Friday, Oct 17 from 6 to 8pm. The book sale will be open to the public on Saturday, Oct 18 from 9am to 3pm, and the “Fill a Bag for $3″ event will take place Sunday, Oct 19 from 1:30 to 3pm. A great selection of fiction and nonfiction books will be available at bargain prices; come early for the best selection!  Membership to the Friends’ group will also be available at the door on Friday evening, Oct 17. Cost of memberships is $10 for individuals, $15 for families, $25 for organizations/corporations, and $100 for lifetime membership. US Trade and Investment Mission to the PH, hosted by the Federation of Philippine American Chambers of Commerce

ANCOP USA Disaster Preparedness Summit

ANCOP USA, in partnership with Catholic Relief SErvices, Caritas in Veritate International and other nonprofit relief agencies, invite the Filipino community to come and join the 1st ANCOP USA Disaster Preparedness Summit. Salute to the 70th Anniversary of Leyte Landing

Sponsored by the Filipino Veterans Foundation (FVF), this special event will remember history from the events of WWII in the Philippines and from those heroes who fought bravely in the Pacific, highlighting the 70th anniversary of the landing on Leyte on October 20, 1944. Program includes special guest speaker Jaime Zobel, curator of the Douglas MacArthur Foundation, and author of “WWII in the Philippines” Jay Wertz. Admission is FREE; held at the Bob Hope Patriotic Hall in Los Angeles from 9am until 12 noon.. Luncheon reception with $25 donation to follow at the Purple Heart Inn. “An Evening with Raul Sunico” Benefit Concert

Presented by GMA Pinoy TV, on Saturday, October 25, at 6:00 PM, talented musical artists including world-renowned pianist Raul Sunico will be performing in a dazzling classical music concert for one night only at the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena (500 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA). Proceeds from “An Evening with Raul Sunico” will help Christian ministers and missionaries through the JIR Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting Christian workers in need. Along with Sunico, the benefit concert will also feature a variety of brilliant performers, among them Soprano Annie Nepomuceno, the Harana Men’s Chorus, and the Soriano Strings Duet. Larry Itliong Tribute Day & March

The City of Carson and various organizations will join the entire community in honoring the life’s work and legacy of Larry Itliong – a Filipino-American labor leader and organizer who brought together immigrant farm workers and cannery workers for over 30 years, and led the successful “Great Delano Grape Strike” of 1965. The tribute march will start at 9 a.m. from the USW-Local 675 Union Hall, located at 1200 E. 220th Street in Carson and end up at the East Parking Lot of the Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center located at 801 E. Carson Street in Carson.  The event is open to the public and admission is free.  The event will feature music, refreshments, inspirational messages and awards presented to the labor awardees. On October 2010, Carson City Council passed a resolution establishing October 25 as Larry Itliong Day in Carson.  City officials are encouraging the community to take part in observing this special day by attending this event honoring the life’s work and legacy of Larry Itliong who promoted and fought for the well-being of all of California’s Farm Workers.For more information about this event, please call (310) 830-7600 ext. 1000 or Fe Koons at (310) 987-8886.

17th Annual Cancer Challenge 5K/10K Run/Walk

Hosted by the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the 17th Annual LA Cancer Challenge 5K/10K Run/Walk (LACC) and Kids Can Cure Fun Run will be held on the Veterans Administration (VA) Grounds in West Los Angeles. Southern California’s best Halloween-themed fitness event includes a Fit Family Expo with more than 60 outdoor exhibitor booths, activity tents, a stage with a huge video screen, a Kids Zone, and an adult costume contest, kids costume parade and more creating a fun-filled day for all! Registration includes a Chip Timed Event, T-Shirt, Bib, Finishers Medal and Runner’s Gift Bag. At the heart of the LACC, which has raised over $5 Million to date, is our goal to unite generations, young and old, through physical fitness to create public awareness and raise much-needed funds for pancreatic cancer research. Arcadia Parol ng Pinoy: Parol Making Workshop

Brought to you by Pinoy Town Hall, come and join us in celebrating the richness of Filipino culture as we gather and be one with the community in reminiscing the art of parolmaking – a folk craft art that has been part of the Filipino Christmas tradition and culture for more than 100 years! Filipino Children’s Foundation 22nd Annual Charity Auction

St. Louis University Alumni Reunion

Mapua High School’s  “Red Robin Rockin’ Reunion”

The Mapua Institute of Technology High School (MITHS) will hold its first grand reunion and formal dinner-dance at the Airtel Hotel in Van Nuys, CA on November 8th and 9th. Led by MITHS Batch ’74 in celebration of its 40th anniversary, this two-day event “Red Robin Rockin’ Reunion” begins with a full day of fellowship on Saturday, November 8th at the hospitality suite of Airtel Hotel, and an opportunity to reminisce and formally organize a MITHS Alumni Association in the US. The weekend will be capped by the first formal dinner-dance on Sunday, November 9th at Airtel Hotel Ballroom at 7 p.m. Attendees are urged to spend the evening with their classmates, former teachers and fellow Mapuans in an evening of dancing and entertainment.
