MANILA, Nov 18 (Mabuhay) – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dir. Gen. Ricardo Marquez on Wednesday said he was satisfied with the combined security efforts of the police, military and other government agencies for the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC).
During the inspection of security personnel deployed in various points of Roxas Boulevard, Marquez said he believes they are ready for any scenario that might unfold during the weeklong APEC meeting.
“They have been trained, they prepared for this and by the looks of it I think they are very, very confident na makaka-perform sila sa ipapagawa ng mga commander nila,” he said.
Marquez said the security officers have different deployments every day depending on the situation on the ground.
“Ang tingin namin okay na okay na,” he said. “Ang adjustment na lang is saan ba kakailanganin i-deploy kasi araw-araw iba ‘yung situation.”
“So as we discuss every night makikita natin na may area na kailangan ilipat namin so ‘yun ang ginagawa namin. But the concept itself, the plan itself I think it has sufficiently addressed the needs of our visitors,” Marquez added.
Marquez also dismissed observations that their security preparations were overkill, noting that 21 economic leaders were in the country for the APEC summit.
“May mga standard kasi tayo when we are securing heads of state and when you are securing 21 of them I think it should be understandable na ‘yung latag natin ay ganun ang level of preparedness kasi this is standard in other countries,” he said.
“Pag ang ating pangulo ay bumibisita sa kabila ganoon din. With what happened in Paris, it becomes more understandable na ‘yung level of preparation natin para sa heads of state, scalable yan,” Marquez added.
