Regine Tolentino used to be very visible on-screen, but she is now more often seen at sports complexes, gyms, corporate events and even barangays, where she holds Zumba workout sessions.
Regine has always been into dancing and living a healthy lifestyle. She is now certified Zumba instructor.
“Nauna ’yung hilig ko sa sayaw. Mahilig na ako magsayaw ever since noong bata pa ako. It’s just the benefit of dancing that you’re healthy and fit. So, I don’t really think about it too much. I used to be so self-conscious of my weight but now I just think about having fun and having a good workout and everything else follows,” she said.
“It helps maintain my energy level throughout the day, even with back to back Zumba classes,” she said.
Still, Regine admits she misses acting.
“I hope I can get back into mainstream acting. However, I’m so blessed to have many Zumba and corporate events lately,” she said.
Regine admitted she had turned down some acting offers because her schedule is already full. She also had to limit her hosting stint on “Unang Hirit” to two, three times a week.
“My schedule right now is loaded with these wonderful Zumba events all over the country and even in Japan and Dubai. I’m just so happy with this advocacy of fitness. It’s great to reach out to the moms. So as of now, hindi pa ako nakakatanggap. I said no to the soaps but eventually I would like to go back to that. It’s just great how the reception is when it comes to Zumba, from the barangays, hindi namimili ng class, age and gender, it’s for everyone. It’s a great advocacy and busy ako doon,” she said.
The mother of two doesn’t have any preference when it comes to roles.
“Kahit mommy or tita roles pa iyan, okay lang,” she said.
Regine feels blessed that people still know her despite her finding a niche in health and fitness.
“I’m blessed na kahit papa’no when it comes to dancing, I’m really active. Go lang ako when it comes to fitness and family. I’m really passionate to everything I do. I stay fit and keep learning and get as many licenses as I can and to enrich my knowledge. I try to look the part and stay as fit as I can,” Regine said.
She has gotten other celebrities to do Zumba workouts. Among them are Bea Alonzo, Christopher de Leon, Jopay, Jason and Joshua del Rosario, Andrea del Rosario, Ina Raymundo, Lorna Tolentino and Jamie Rivera.
Regine and her husband, Lander Vera Perez are health and fitness enthusiasts, so their workouts also serve as their bonding time. While her family is health-conscious, Regine said they are “not hardcore.”
“We still travel, we eat out. We still have our pizza, we still have our chocolates. But as a whole, it’s really to balance it out and have more fun in doing it,” she said.
The mother of two has an advice for moms who want to keep a healthy well-being.
“Attitude. You have to put yourself first. You have to be a little bit more vain and be concerned of everything. Like your waistline affects your health. You cannot love others if you don’t love yourself first. So, you have to at least set aside 15 to 30 minutes a day to exercise. Choose activities which incorporate some exercises already, like using the stairs, carrying your children,” she said.(MNS)
