MANILA, Apr 4 (Mabuhay) –  President Benigno Aquino III garnered the highest approval rating among the top national government officials, according to the latest Pulse Asia Research Inc. “Ulat ng Bayan” national survey.

Aquino was the only government official who secured a majority approval rating, with 52 percent of the respondents saying that they have a positive opinion on the work he has done, the pollster noted in the “Performance Trust Ratings of the Top National Government Survey and the Performance Ratings of Key Governmnet Institutions” released on Monday.

“A little over half of Filipinos (52 percent) have a positive opinion of the work done by President Benigno Aquino III in the past three months,” the pollster said.

The survey was conducted from March 12 to 18, 2016, using face-to-face interviews with a probability sample of 1,800 registered voters aged 18 and above. Pulse Asia assigned assigned a ± 2 percent error margin at the 95-percent confidence level for the Ulat ng Bayan National Survey.

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay and Senate President Franklin M. Drilon both got a national approval rating of 46 percent each.

Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes A. Sereno garnered 31 percent, while House Speaker Feliciano R. Belmonte Jr. got 30 percent.

Binay registered an approval of 45 percent in Metro Manila, 47 percent in the rest of Luzon, 42 percent in the Visayas, and 49 percent in Mindanao.

Drilon got an approval of 49 percent in Metro Manila, 44 percent in Luzon, 47 percent in the Visayas, and 46 percent in Mindanao.

Sereno garnered 36 percent in Metro Manila, 30 percent in Luzon, 29 percent in the Visayas, and 33 percent in Mindanao.

Belmonte had 44 percent approval in Metro Manila, 31 percent in Luzon, 21 percent in the Visayas, and 26 percent in Mindanao.

In the latest survey, there was a “more notable” rise in the approval for the performance of both Belmonte and Sereno at the national level (up 6 percent for both), in Mindanao (+11 and +18 percent,respectively), and Class D (+7 and +6 percent, respectively).

The subnational estimates for the geographic areas have the following error margins at the 95 percent confidence level: ± 6 percent for Metro Manila, ± 3 percent for the rest of Luzon, and ± 5 percent each for the Visayas and Mindanao.

On the other hand, 18 percent of the respondents disapproved of Aquino’s performance while 30 percent were undecided.

In Metro Manila, the public opinion toward Aquino’s work was split three-ways: 36 percent were critical, 33 percent expressed approval, and 32 percent were ambivalent.

“Appreciation for presidential performance is the majority sentiment in the rest of Luzon (51 percent), the Visayas (59 percent), Mindanao (58 percent), and Class E (58 percent),” Pulse Asia noted.

In terms government institutions, the Supreme Court was the only office to record a majority approval rating of 52 percent.

It was followed by the Senate (49 percent) and the House of Representatives (41 percent). (MNS)
