DOH confirms 2 more Zika cases in PHL

MANILA  (Mabuhay) – The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday announced that two more persons in Iloilo City have tested positive for Zika, bringing to eight the number of recorded cases in the Philippines. Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial said the two new Zika patients are living in the same house with the sixth patient found positive for the virus. Ubial said that all three patients showed minor symptoms of Zika such as fever and mild skin rash. None of the three have been hospitalized and have already recovered, she said. She, however, said the patients are still under observation and under home quarantine. The DOH announced last week that the sixth Zika patient contracted the virus while out of the country. It sent a team to Iloilo City to check if other people living with and near the sixth patient have also contracted Zika. Ubial said at least 88 houses around the residence of the sixth patient were checked by the city government and found the presence of larvae of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes., the carrier of Zika as well as dengue. She said the two new cases were among the 12 people tested for Zika in the community. Meanwhile, Ubial said that the Iloilo City government has intensified its search and destroy drive to rid the community of the Zika-carrying mosquitoes. She urged other local government units to also intensify their anti-mosquito campaign in their respective areas.(MNS)

Kathryn in ‘stronger relationship’ with Daniel

Kathryn Bernardo (MNS photo) Kathryn Bernardo says the loyal fans of her KathNiel loveteam with Daniel Padilla will see a different Kathryn and Daniel in their new movie, “Barcelona: A Love Untold” that opens on September 14, as directed by Olivia Lamasan. “We’re playing more mature roles here, hindi na pa-cute, hindi na teenybopper roles like we did before in ‘Must Be Love’ and ‘She’s Dating the Gangster’,” she says. “This is just to be expected kasi nga hindi na rin kami teenagers ni Daniel, so kailangang lumevel up na kami because even our fans, mas mature na rin. I’m sure mapapansin nila ang pagkakaiba when they watch the movie.” Someone says Kathryn’s competence as a drama actress is very evident in many scenes in the film. Even Daniel is said to have been amazed by her transformation and her acting prowess as a young woman who goes to Spain to rise from her failures and meets Daniel as Ely, a guy who’s heartbroken after his sweetheart, Celine, a lookalike of Kathryn, dumped him. So what’s the real score between them at this stage? “Exclusive na kami. Wala nang puwedeng dumagdag na isa pa doon. We enjoy  each other’s company every day,” Daniel declares. Daniel says their love team was formed five years ago. “Noong first year, getting to know each other pa lang kami,” he adds. “Then sa second year, we get to know our differences and it’s up to each of us to accept it or magka-clash kami. James Reid, Anne Curtis take drug test

James Reid (MNS photo) James Reid and Anne Curtis have tested negative for illegal drugs, their talent agency said in a statement. This is in response to several tabloid reports linking both Reid and Curtis to the use of illegal drugs such as methamphetamine (shabu) and THC (marijuana). According to the Viva Artists Agency (VAA), the reports are nothing but “unfounded rumors.” “These reports were broadcast on AM radio and published in several tabloids with only an unnamed ‘pusher’ as a source and with no further evidence to support the claim,” VAA said. “Ms. Curtis and Mr. Reid are aware of and give importance to the influence of artists in society as role models to the youth.” Anne Curtis (MNS Photo) “Thus, VAA and its artists have taken the initiative to publicize the results to inform the public of the truth and to show support for the government’s campaign against illegal use of drugs,” the statement concluded. The statement issued Tuesday afternoon also showed the laboratory results from Hi-Precision Diagnostics in Mandaluyong City, a medical laboratory licensed by the Department of Health and accredited with the Dangerous Drugs Board. The PNP chief also debunked the link of Talitay, Maguindanao Vice Mayor Abduwahab Sabal in the Davao bombing. Dela Rosa said that the arrest of the vice mayor was in connection with illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms. He added that all the news about the vice mayor were all “speculations” only. As of Monday, Dela Rosa said, there were still no evidence that would link the vice mayor in the bombing incident in Davao City. “Hindi muna ako magsalita hanggang hindi pa namin ma-connect. We have to connect all the dots to have an airtight case against the suspects. So hindi ko masabi na sila yung narco-politicians na tinutukoy natin who funded the bombing,” Dela Rosa said. ”We are doing everything we can to Read More …
