Sunshine Dizon maintains good relationship with in-laws

Sunshine Dizon (MNS photo) Sunshine Dizon has refused to let the legal battle between her and Timothy Tan affect the relationship that she and her children have with her husband’s parents. Speaking to reporters, Dizon explained the recent photo which she posted on Instagram of her and her two children with Tan’s father. “I never had a problem with the family of Tim, especially my father-in-law. Hindi na lang napag-uusapan [’yung gulo] pero ayaw ko ring umabot sa point na maapektuhan ‘yung relasyon ko sa father-in-law ko, or ng mga anak ko sa father-in-law ko because he is a very decent and good man. He is truly like my second father,” she said. Dizon said she feels her father-in-law’s concern when it comes to their marital woes but stressed that he actually does not meddle with it. “We just avoid talking about it. Sabi nga ng father-in-law ko, he is praying and hoping na maaayos pero hindi para diktahan niya ako kung anong dapat kong gawin because may sarili akong decision and hindi rin para mangunsinti sila dahil may maling nagawa,” she said. Nonetheless, Dizon said she understands where her father-in-law is coming from when he expressed that he is hoping she and Tan could still fix their marriage. Is there any effort on Tan’s part to mend their relationship? “I don’t want to elaborate. Actually kasi may gag order. I’m not sure if I’m privy to say this in public pero sa mga anak niya, maayos naman siya sa Read More …

MMDA to push for hazard pay for traffic constables

By Benjamin T. Bondoc MANILA  (PNA) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday it will push for the provision of a hazard pay for its traffic constables. Traffic on EDSA near the Kamuning Avenue flyover is heavy again on Tuesday after the long, 5-day holiday amid the visit of Pope Francis. Despite some roads being closed for motorcades during the papal visit, the holidays kept traffic light in the metropolis. (MNS photo) In an interview, MMDA General Manager and concurrent Officer in Charge Thomas Orbos said this is to protect and compensate constables exposed to the perils of traffic in the streets of Metro Manila, such as extreme weather conditions, pollution and harassment from abusive motorists. “On the matter of hazard pay for our traffic constables, we are discussing it with the Department of Transportation, under the leadership of Secretary Arthur Tugade,” Orbos said. “Just like soldiers, our traffic enforcers in the streets brace themselves for war-like traffic management tasks. This is why they deserve to get hazard pay,” he explained. Based on the modified salary schedule for civilian and uniformed personnel under Executive Order 201, an MMDA traffic constable’s monthly salary ranges only from PHP10,000 to PHP15,000. At present, among those who are given hazard pay are military and uniformed personnel, health workers and science and technology employees. In the absence of a hazard pay, the MMDA has undertaken measures to ensure the protection of traffic constables while performing their duties. In 2013, the agency began implementing Read More …

Sabihin nila maging Marcos [ako], far from it,” he told the 129 retrenched OFWs who arrived home from Saudi Arabia. “I am just doing my duty or else I will compromise [the] next generation,” he said, defending his administration’s tough stance against the illegal drug problem. Duterte’s mother, Soledad, was an activist who fought against the Marcos dictatorship in the then-undivided Davao. Fears that Duterte is following the late strongman’s footsteps arose when he threatened to declare martial law following a clash with Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno regarding the supposed involvement of several judges in the illegal drug trade. Malacañang spokespersons, however, said Duterte’s comment was just an exaggeration to emphasize the gravity of the drug menace, which they likened to a national security threat. Duterte apologized to Sereno for the “harsh words.” (MNS)

Accompanied by representatives of the Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development Foundation, Inc., (PLCPD) in the Senate, the delegation is in Manila on a study tour. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — Senators have opposing positions on the possibility of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) being revived to ensure the long-term supply of energy in the country. At the hearing of the Senate committee on energy Wednesday, Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi said he was in favor of reviving the 620-megawatt nuclear plant, declaring that it was “safe for use.” “I have a bias. If I will make a decision, I will open it but it’s not for me to decide, it’s for the country to decide,” Cusi told the committee. While Cusi assured that we have sufficient supply, reviving the Bataan plant would beef up power reserves, lowering the risk of parts of the country being placed under yellow and red alerts as what happened in recent months. “What we are trying to do is to have that reserve. We have to make that as a policy. Is that 5 percent of the demand, 10, 15 or 20 percent?” Cusi said. “Napakanipis ng reserve. Pag nakuha ‘yun, we would have Read More …
