SC defers vote on Sandigan justice’s admin case over ‘Napoles ties’

Jeane Napoles, daughter of Janet Lim-Napoles, in a limo as posted in m.spot.ph apparently on her way to one of her evening sorties in Los Angeles, where she reportedly owns a Ritz Carlton apartment near Staples Center. The Philippine government has begun probing her lavish lifestyle as shown in social media and has asked the U.S. government to recover what may belong to Philippine coffers. MANILA (Mabuhay) -The Supreme Court has deferred ruling on the administrative case filed against Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Gregory Ong over his supposed ties with alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles. In a media briefing Tuesday, SC Public Information Office chief and spokesman Theodore Te said voting on the case did not push through although he did not give the reason why. A court insider, however, said the SC deferred action because of the absence of Associate Justice Jose Catral Mendoza, who has yet to return after extending his wellness leave. The SC earlier this year motu proprio or in its own initiative initiated an administrative case against Ong. Leading the investigation was SC Associate Justice Angelina Sandoval-Gutierrez, who was recently appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as a member of the Judicial and Bar Council. During the investigation, Ong was made to explain why he had been identified by Marina Sula and Benhur Luy, whistleblowers in the alleged pork barrel scam case, as a Napoles contact. Sula had said in her affidavit that she had seen Ong visit Napoles at her office at the Read More …

Comelec: Votes for Eddie Villanueva in Nueva Ecija precinct tampered

President Benigno S. Aquino III delivers his message at the opening day of the Asia for Christ Movement Mission Congress 2012 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, Tuesday (November 13). The religious event is chaired by Bro. Eddie Villanueva. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – The Commission on Elections said Thursday there was post-election tampering or manipulation of votes for defeated 2013 senatorial candidate Eddie Villanueva in a precinct in Nueva Ecija. Reporting the result of the review it conducted between the physical and decrypted ballots in cluster precinct 19 in Barangay Concepcion in Gapan town, where there was alleged discrepancy in the votes for Villanueva, Comelec chief Sixto Brillantes Jr. said the physical ballots were touched after the elections and the oval for Villanueva was shaded. “In the paper ballot, there is a shade in the Villanueva oval but in the decrypted image there is no shade. Our conclusion is that this was a case of post election tampering,” Brillantes told the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on the Automated Election System. The decrypted image is a scanned picture of the ballot when the voter puts it in the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine during election day. “At the Read More …

Toni glad that Alex is stepping out from her shadow

Alex and Toni Gonzaga (MNS Photo) With her hit series “Pure Love” and the just concluded “The Voice Kids,” actress-host Alex Gonzaga has finally stepped out from the giant shadow of her sister Toni Gonzaga. Speaking to reporters at the press conference for her 15th anniversary concert “Celestine” on October 3 at SM Mall of Asia Arena, Toni said she’s happy that fans can now judge – and appreciate – them based on their own merits. “Nase-separate na nila kung sino ako at kung sino siya at kung ano ang kaya niyang gawin na hindi ko kayang gawin at kaya kong gawin na hindi niya magagawa. Kasi for the longest time people keep on …parang kina-clash nila kami, pinagko-compete nila kami when in fact there’s really no competition,” Toni said. “Kung ako lang talaga ang masusunod ay ibibigay ko lahat sa kapatid ko. I think she waited long enough and I think she’s ripe na, right age where she can take full responsibility of doing all those things na kaya niyang gawin for the industry,” she added. Toni also clarified that Alex isn’t just “copying” her hosting style, noting that her sister had been hosting back when she was a student. “Lagi siyang president ng student council. Talagang she always want to take a lead sa mga kasabayan niya noon. Talagang may sariling personality si Alex,” Toni added. Gonzaga even considers herself a “stage sister” to Alex, who earned praises for her stint on “The Voice Kids.” “Lagi naman akong Read More …

Expand DAP probe; Include other lawmakers and officials

The current probe being conducted by the Senate on alleged corruption among elected public officials should be expanded to dispel public perception that the Aquino government is only after its perceived political enemies. So far only Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jingoy Estrada and Bong Revilla have been charged with plunder for allegedly receiving “kickbacks” from their controversial DAP and PDAF allocations. Estrada and Revilla are under detention while Enrile is still at the Philippine National Police hospital in Camp Crame due to his medical condition. Also being investigated in the Senate is Vice President Jojo Binay and some members of his family, including his wife and former Makati mayor Elenita Binay, son and current Makati Mayor Junjun and eldest daughter Senator Nancy Binay. A plunder case filed against the Binay family by their political opponents in Makati prompted senators to call for a hearing. The elder Binay and his son are being investigated for allegedly receiving “kickback” from the construction of the P2.3 billion Makati carpark building. Ernesto Mercado, former vice mayor of Makati, pointed to Binay and his son as having received “commission” from the construction of the parking building. He also claimed to have delivered part of the “kickbacks” to Mrs Binay through her daughter Nancy. He also accused senator Binay of selling her overpriced birthday cakes given by Makati City Hall to its senior citizens. He claimed the lady senator used to bake these cakes before she became a senator. The Philippines is still perceived as one Read More …

Henares said that after Roxas, the lifestyle check will be conducted on the highest ranking PNP officials, starting with Purisima. She, however, clarified that not all the 150,000 PNP members will be subjected to the lifestyle check as earlier reported by some media outfits. Prioritization “Hindi naman lahat. Binay insists no corruption in Makati projects

Vice President Jejomar Binay hits back at his accusers during a televised press conference at the PICC in Pasay City on Thursday, September 18. Binay denied receiving kickbacks from the construction of the Makati City Hall Building II and from other projects in the city during his term as mayor. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday insisted that there is no corruption in Makati projects, including the alleged overpriced Makati parking building, and said those who testified in the Senate hearing have been rejected by Makati residents many times as unfit to be public servants. Binay said the same allegations of corruption have been resurrected throughout his political life. Binay pointed out that the Makati City Hall Bldg 2 project underwent 10 audits by Commission on Audit over a period of five years, and there has not been an instance of alarm issued by COA. He cited several government-construction projects, and quoted what he termed were comparable or lower figures. Binay asserted that the overpricing accusations attributed to former vice-mayor Ernesto Mercado cannot hold water because there was not a single credible document to back up the verbal claims. “Walang ipinakitang ebidensiya. Hindi ito tatayo sa hukuman. Ipinakita lang ito sa mala-circus na pagdinig ng Senado,” he said. Reiterating that all transactions during his term as mayor were above board, he said the allegations against him were old issues being rehashed time and again. The Vice-President slammed some senators for taking the word of a Read More …

Miriam says she was not informed funds for projects were from DAP

Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago announces during a press conference on Wednesday (July 2, 2014) that she has been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. “God never asks us for an opinion. God just goes ahead and does whatever is in His hands. I just say okay,” Santiago says. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago admitted Thursday that she received funds for her projects but clarified that she was not informed that it was sourced from the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP). In a press statement, Santiago said she was even surprised upon seeing her name on the list of legislators who received DAP allocations. “In my case, a few months ago, I even requested from the DBM (Department of Budget and Management) a list of any DAP releases to me. It took them some time to give me the list. And when I received it, even I was surprised, because when my Office reportedly received the funds, they were not identified as DAP funds,” she said. Santiago maintained that she did not ask for any DAP releases made to her. “They must have been received in due course by my Office, from the Senate secretariat. If so, I would have assigned the funds to my usual PDAF projects – such as the UP system throughout the country, PGH, other hospitals, or local government units – but certainly not to NGOs,” she said. She added that the usual practice was for the Senate secretariat to inform a senator that Read More …
