VP Binay gets ‘excellent’ public satisfaction rating on SWS survey

“I will be the next president” is perhaps what Philippine’s Vice President Jejomar Binay is telling U.S. President Barrack Obama as he welcomes the U.S. president upon his arrival at an airport in Manila April 28, 2014. (MNS photo) MANILA, July 7 (Mabuhay) – Vice President Jejomar Binay’s public satisfaction ratings rose while those of other top government officials fell in March, according to a new survey by pollster Social Weather Stations. The SWS said the ratings of other top officials including Senate President Franklin Drilon, House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno fell during this time. In its survey conducted March 27 to 30 and posted Sunday night on media partner BusinessWorld, the SWS said Binay got a net rating of +73 with 82 percent satisfied and nine percent dissatisfied with his performance. SWS said Binay’s +73 score, which it considers “excellent,” is an improvement from the “very good” +62 public satisfaction last December. Drilon’s score was a “moderate” +17, with 46 percent satisfied and 29 percent dissatisfied. This was eight points below his December score, which was also “moderate.” Belmonte had a “neutral” -1, with 32 percent satisfied and 32 percent dissatisfied. This was 17 points down from his “moderate” score in December. Sereno had a “neutral” +4, with 34 percent satisfied and 30 percent dissatisfied, 12 points below her “moderate” score in December. President Benigno Aquino III in a briefing of the propose Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) at Iloilo Bussiness Park,Brgy Old Airport, Mandurriao District Iloilo City on friday (June 27) in Photo Are Senate Pres. Franklin Drillon and DPWH Sec. Rogelio Singson . Photo by: Ryan Lim/ Malacanang Photo Bureau MANILA  (Mabuhay) – After it was disqualified from the bidding process, San Miguel Corp is asking Malacañang to reconsider its offer to build and operate the P34.5-billion Cavite Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Project of the government. In a 37-page memorandum appeal to Malacanang, San Miguel’s unit, Optimal Infrastructure Development Inc, (OIDI) asked President Benigno Aquino III to set aside the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) resolution that barred the company from bidding for the project and declare its bid security and proposal as compliant. The DPWH disqualified OIDI because of a defective bid security. In addition, OIDI wants Malacanang to accept its financial bid by way of “judicial notice” – amounting to P20.105 billion in concession payment—as officially opened. Its bid was higher than the P11.65 billion offered by the Aboitiz-Ayala consortium. Moreover, OIDI said the DPWH Appellees’ decision to disqualify OIDI from the bidding process “needlessly prejudices” private participation in public infrastructure projects just because of an “inadvertent and harmless typographical error (which was later on clarified and corrected).” “As such, this decision defeats the constitutional policy of encouraging private sector participation in national development, as well as the declared policy of the Amended BOT Law. Claudine has positive message for Raymart

Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago (MNS Photo) “Karirin na natin ‘to!” This was Claudine Barretto’s message for her estranged husband, actor Raymart Santiago, on fulfilling together their responsibilities to their children, following a bitter exchange of lawsuits and scandalous allegations starting last year. The 34-year-old actress said she and Santiago have been discussing an arrangement concerning their two kids — 6-year-old Santino and 10-year-old Sabina. “All I can say is that, thank God, it’s gearing towards good signs and good direction para sa mga anak namin at sa amin,” Barretto said. Citing a gag order, the former ABS-CBN star said she cannot discuss the details of possible agreements on financial support, visitation rights to the children, and claims to properties. Clarifying that they are not back together, Barretto was happy to share that she and her husband recently attended a parent-teacher conference together for one of their kids. Over the weekend, the actress also posted on Instagram photos of her with her children and Santiago posing inside what appears to be a restaurant. “Happy day,” she said in one caption. “It’s also for our kids,” Barretto explained. “Sabi ko nga kay Raymart, ‘If we failed as husband and wife, let’s not fail naman as parents.’ Sabi ko, ‘Let’s partner naman in being good parents. Nakakahiya naman. Karirin na natin ‘to!’” She added: “Ano naman siya, he was very cooperative. I just hope lang na he will comply sa lahat ng mga pinag-uusapan. And I’m sure naman… Sana oo naman, siguro.” Read More …

But you know, impeachment is both a legal and political topic and you cannot separate one from the other,” Santiago said at a press conference at the Senate, a day after the Supreme Court declared key provisions of the DAP unconstitutional. “Now if you are asking me if he can be impeached, definitely.
