(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — Survey front runner Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was again the target of President Benigno Aquino III’s campaign speech in Iloilo on Tuesday, wherein he questioned Duterte’s style of leadership. Aquino said Duterte acts like a dictator who threatens to violate the Constitution, citing the mayor’s statement that he will close down Congress to thwart attempts to have him impeached over allegations of hidden wealth. “Pinag-aralan ko po ‘yung ating Saligang Batas at hinahamon ko po kayo lahat dito, lahat ng nakikinig sa atin, hanapin niyo sa Saligang Batas: Saan ang kapangyarihan ng Presidente na i-abolish ang Kongreso?” Aquino told the crowd gathered at the Plazoleta Gay in Iloilo Tuesday night. Iloilo is considered a bailiwick of the ruling Liberal Party (LP), with party stalwart Senate President Franklin Drilon hailing from the said province. “I-abolish rin ang Supreme Court, baka iyon ang susunod, ewan ko. Pero hanapin ho niyo, walang ganung karapatan. Sinasabi nga ho: Sa Saligang Batas, co-equal branch e. Ano ba ang ibig sabihin no’n? Kapag umabuso si Presidente, nandiyan ‘yung Kongreso sa pamamagitan ng impeachment, pananagutin,” Aquino further said. “Kapag umabuso ‘yung Kongreso at ‘yung Presidente, nandiyan ‘yung Supreme Court, pwedeng tingnan Read More …

Walang iba,” Escudero said at a press conference at the Senate when asked if he thinks administration standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II is capable of rigging the polls. When pressed if he thinks Aquino and Roxas would allow cheating to mar the elections, Escudero, who is running for vice president, only vouched for the President’s character. “Hindi ako close kay Secretary Roxas. Kaya ko lamang magsalita sa pagkakakilala ko kay Pangulong Aquino. Ang sagot ko ay hindi at umaasa ako na hindi at hindi siya nagbago,” he said. Roxas, on the other hand, dismissed Escudero’s statement, saying it is not based on facts. “Itong mga paratang ay mga salita ito ng mga wala namang pinanghahawakang pruweba,” Roxas told reporters in a separate media briefing. Roxas also questioned the timing of Escudero’s statement, noting that he could have raised concerns on the conduct of the presidential elections through a Senate investigation. “Bakit ngayon nalang lumalabas ‘yan?

Gonzaga shared that she used to attend acting workshops with Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson and Dee when she was still starting out in showbiz. “Wala pa akong mga show noon so pagpasok ko, parang hindi talaga ako artista noon kasi nag-aaral pa ako. Sila may mga show na. Tapos si Enchong biglang lumapit sa akin. Sabi niya, ‘Halika, tayo na lang ang magsama.’ Tapos hindi niya alam na crush ko siya noon kasi nga chinito siya. Sabi ko, ‘Ay o sige, tayo na lang ang magsama.’ So lagi kaming magkatabi noon,” she recalled. Rita Avila (MNS Photo) Grief can consume us leading to depression. It is how we deal with grief that spells the big difference in our earthly life. This somehow is the underlying philosophy that actress Rita Avila wants to impart to people in general and not only to readers of her books. You see, she is not only a talented and awarded actress, she is also an author. All the grief she felt when she and husband TV director Erick M. Reyes lost their son Elia Jesu (named after Erick’s favorite director Elia Kazan) to congenital heart ailment when he was only three-week old, she translated into something positive. She transformed all those sad feelings into an inspirational book entitled “8 Ways to Comfort With Grace.” Rita doesn’t just write books – she writes them with a purpose. For instance, her first book, “Si Erik Tutpik at si Ana Taba,” which was actually based on her and Erick’s childhood experiences, is about children who experienced bullying. When they were young, Erick was thin, while Rita was chubby. So naturally, they were subject to bullying. After this, Rita started number one of her “The Invisible Wings.” And just this year, she came out with number two, “The Invisible Wings 2 (Little Sacrifices and Rewards),” which she dedicated to “our angel son, Elia Jesu E. Reyes” and starring once more Mimay, Popoy and Pony who wanted to become “angels on earth.” Most Rev. Honesto F. Ongtioco, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Read More …
With less than three weeks to go before election day, candidates are now making last minute pitches to the voting public, hoping that they will be able to come out on top of their political rivals on May 6. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s numbers in surveys continue to rise, despite being pilloried by his political rivals for being a self-confessed womanizer, head of a death squad vigilante group and a vulgar. Duterte was also recently censured severely by his critics for his “uncivilized” remark about the rape and murder of an Australian missionary during a prison riot in Davao in 1989. Some political observers are saying that Duterte’s “joke remark” on the rape and murder of the Australian missionary could have a backlash on voters come election day. Some are even saying that his numbers in surveys will significantly go down since most of his supporters might have been disgusted about his remarks on the death of the missionary. With the election coming in less than three weeks, I doubt if Duterte’s political supporters will abandon the feisty city executive from Mindanao. People are tired of empty promises of traditional politicians that no one believes anymore. Duterte’s no-nonsense drive against crime, illegal drugs and corruption are the reasons why voters remain loyal to him. He is the exact opposite of President Aquino, who is a weakling and a do-nothing and indecisive leader. Duterte, on the other hand, is hard worker and an honest politicians for years. He gets things done Read More …
