(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) -– President Benigno Aquino III vowed closer ties, especially in terms of trade and investment, between the Philippines and Canada as he left for North America on Wednesday. In his departure speech, Aquino said among his chief missions in his working visit in the US and state visit in Canada is to lure more Canadian investors and tourists to the Philippines. Canada is the Philippines’ seventh top source market for tourism and 21st largest trading partner. The North American country has also designated Philippines as a ”country of focus” for assistance and ”priority emerging market” for overseas trade and investment. Read More …

Photo: Chris Farina / Top Rank MANILA, May 4 (Mabuhay) – Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao expressed his disappointment at the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) after he was denied an injection inside the locker room that could have numbed the pain in his injured right shoulder. Pacquiao lost a unanimous decision to American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their “Fight of the Century” on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila), but afterwards, he revealed that he fought despite having an injury in his right shoulder. “Ayoko namang gawing malaking isyu ‘yung balikat ko kasi baka sabihin nag-dahilan ako,” Pacquiao told reporters Monday. Pacquiao revealed that he injured his shoulder three weeks before the fight, and was initially advised by his doctor to rest for 30 to 40 days. “Eh three weeks before the fight na lang,” he said. “So sabi ng doctor, para magamit sa fight, kailangan ‘wag mo gamitin sa training para gumaling, and then, sa fight, yung mag-injection na lang ng pang-numb para hindi ma-feel ‘yung sakit.” Pacquiao stressed that the shot he was set to receive on fight night was not a steroid and legal in Las Vegas. (MNS photo) MANILA, May 4 (Mabuhay) — The military is verifying reports that wanted bomb maker Abdul Basit Usman died during a gun fight within his group, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said Monday. Speaking to reporters, Catapang confirmed Usman’s death but said the military is still gathering and verifying pieces of information about the wanted terrorist’s demise. Catapang said he received reports that Usman died after his own men started fighting each other on Sunday. “There was in-fighting among his bodyguards. Because we were able to kill his most of his trusted bodyguards – when he was killed, he had 7 bodyguards – but these bodyguards were not the most loyal to him,” he said. He said the military is still verifying whether Usman, who carries a $1 million bounty on his head, was killed when the infighting broke out or after Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) fighters engaged Usman’s men in a firefight. “Nagpunta din ang MILF doon to verify. We are still finding out kung patay na si Usman nung dumating ang MILF o there was a firefight.” Earlier reports said Usman and five of his men died in an exchange of fire in Barangay Muti, Guindulungan, Maguindanao on Sunday. Audi’s smarter way to own a car

Audi on demand. ©Audi “Audi on demand” is an app-based concierge service set to go live this week in San Francisco that gives users the chance to book the use of any car in the company’s current range for up to a month. The system, which will see anything from an A4 sedan to the latest R8 supercar delivered to a user’s door and then collected again when the rental period is over, is the latest exploration by a car company into alternative ways of offering personal mobility. The industry may have been very slow to react to concerns regarding the environment and the sustainability of fossil fuels, but now that it is alive to these issues it is very quickly making up for lost time. The issue that Audi is trying to address, in a suitably premium way, is that people need different types of cars for different reasons. “The service is rooted in customization, personalization and having the right car for the right moment,” said Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. “Audi on demand delivers a truly premium experience, with concierges personally delivering and returning vehicles for customers where and when they need them.” With this in mind, users will be able to not only specify an exact vehicle – the picture shown in the app will be the car (down to the color) that will be delivered – but will also be able to add things like child seats or Read More …
