Pacquiao-Mayweather fight fever heats up

Since five years ago the heat has been building up from both camps of Filipino eight world title holder Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten Floyd Mayweatther Jr. to bring them into the ring. Amid the back and forth negotiations to smoothen out some issues, finally the two great boxing gladiators will meet at MGM Garden in Las Vegas on May 2nd for what is dubbed the “Fight of the Century”. The unique encounter is the most awaited encounter and has the distinction  being the top prizefight event where both boxers will laugh their way to the bank after less than an hour of blood and sweat if the fight goes through the scheduled 12 rounds. Pacquiao will pocket $80 million while Mayweather will be $120 richer. The staggering amount to stage the fight will cost their fans a lot of money to witness in person or in pay-per view mode. Alan Cayetano claims MILF out to ‘assassinate’ him

Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano MANILA (Mabuhay) – Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday claimed he has been targeted for assassination by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, supposedly to ensure the passage of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law. Appearing at the Kapihan sa Senado, Cayetano said an “official intelligence report” furnished by a law enforcement agency he refused to identify specifically named him, confirming what he learned from “unofficial sources,” who said politicians, including one from Metro Manila, would be “sacrificed” for the BBL’s passage. Asked to show the report naming him, Cayetano said those who furnished him a copy “requested not to divulge it in public since they are still investigating the report.” Nevertheless, he claimed the report said “the threat was specifically for me as a senator.” “Sa unofficial sources, politicians ang tinutukoy (The unofficial sources only mentioned politicians),” he added. In the wake of the January 25 Mamasapano incident, Cayetano withdrew his sponsorship of the proposed BBL, which would create a new autonomous homeland as part of the peace agreement between the MILF and government. Cayetano, who hails from Taguig City, which hosts a large Muslim community, claimed that if the assassination bid succeeded, “palalabasin na naman ng MILF na BIFF iyon, pero hindi naman BIFF iyon, na palagi nilang ginagawa (the MILF will say it is the handiwork of the BIFF, even if it isn’t, which is what they always do).” He also claimed that the two organizations are “BFF, best friends forever.” Read More …

But the humble pugilist remains Filipino at heart, as well as in his stomach, as he treats his guests with traditional Filipino dishes from his favorite restaurant in Southern California – the Barrio Fiesta Glendale. Dinner at Barrio Fiesta Glendale With no less than the proprietor himself, Barrio Fiesta Glendale owner Bobby Yutadco delivering Manny’s favorite dishes in five large trays to Manny’s new love next and even enjoyed a great meal with the boxing champ – a rare feat indeed.

Siyempre po, wala ho akong karanasan sa sinasabi nila, kaya naman dadako na lang ako sa talagang punto ng event natin ngayong umaga,” he said. “Baka nakalimutan ho ninyo: I’m Noynoy Aquino. Aquino skirting liability by refusing to apologize over Mamasapano – Miriam

President Benigno S. Aquino III attends the Malacañang Prayer Gathering at the Malacañan Palace Grounds on Monday (March 09, 2015). (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III is refusing to apologize over the January 25 Mamasapano incident to avoid civil or criminal liability arising from a confession, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago said Wednesday. At a press conference, Santiago said Aquino was aware that he would lose his immunity from suits once his term ends in 2016. “He wants to avoid any liability arising from a confession after his term finishes in 2016. Remember that after he is no longer President, he becomes liable to all manner of suits. He loses his immunity from suit, both civil and criminal,” she said. “So he is afraid that if he apologizes, in effect, some court might consider that that is a confession admissible in law and in effect therefore he will be his own worst witness. That is why he does not want to apologize. He wants to evade any criminal or even civil liability after 2016,” she added. Various groups and several lawmakers have asked the President to apologize over the incident, where over 60 people, including 44 policemen, were killed, but Malacañang said Aquino already stated that he accepts responsibility over it. Political analyst Prof. Prospero de Vera and public relations expert  Reli German said Aquino’s reluctance to apologize was understandable, although both said apology could be done without using the word “sorry.” De Vera said instead of using Read More …
