Photo Credit: Chris Farina/Top Rank NEW YORK  – Throughout his two-week, 27.273-mile international media tour with Fighter of the Decade Congressman MANNY “Pacman” Pacquiao, a lot of discussion centered on New York’s undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri’s  belief in the power bracelets and pendants he wears outside the ring.  Algieri believes they are a source of strength, energy  and life improvement qualities. At their final media tour press conference, which took place at the Liberty Theater   in New York last Thursday, Team Pacquiao consulted with The Amazing Kreskin, arguably the world’s foremost mentalist, about Algieri’s cosmic accessories.  Here is what Kreskin had to say: “Regarding all the talk about the bracelets and pendants that are being worn by Chris Algieri. Do I feel that they have any power? The answer is very simple – Yes!  They can heal and they can increase tremendous energy to an athlete – If the athlete believes in the power of a rock, gold piece, glass of water, marbles – any of which have absolutely have no power at all.  It becomes a matter of auto-suggestion. “I was asked to use my “mental powers” to combat the power of these beads. However, there is no need to do that! “If I am correctly reading the thoughts of Algieri, I will tell you what I am convinced is in his unconscious mind.  What other reason would he have to look for mystical or occult special outside powers unless, as I believe…Algieri is convinced that Manny is a Read More …

PHL raises rates further as inflation threatens

President Benigno S. Aquino III tours the exhibit area upon arrival for the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) Membership Meeting and launch of Mindanao Inclusive Agribusiness Program at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City on Monday (September 08). The event aims to rally PBSP members and other Mindanao companies around the idea of inclusive business on priority industries: coffee, cacao, corn, palm oil and rubber, as well as possible investments in Bangsamoro. (MNS photo) MANILA (AFP) – Philippine monetary authorities raised key interest rates Thursday for the second time in six weeks, saying they needed to head off the threat of higher inflation next year. The central bank said it raised its overnight borrowing and lending rates by 25 basis points to 4.0 and 6.0 percent respectively, the same increment as the last increase on July 31. “The Monetary Board’s decision is based on the assessment that the inflation target, particularly for 2015, remains at risk,” the bank said in a statement. It was now likely the Philippines would hit the higher end of its inflation target range of 2.0-4.0 percent, it added. It said there were price pressures arising from possible further increases in food prices due to tight domestic supply, as well as pending petitions for higher utility rates and potential power shortages. President Benigno Aquino warned Thursday that the country’s energy reserves were thin due to high economic growth and ageing power plants that needed more frequent maintenance shutdowns. “I am told that the Read More …

Cagayan de Oro (2nd District) Representative Rufus Rodriguez said he has already withdrawn his support for the “Anti-Selfie” Bill  or “An Act to Provide Protection From Personal Intrusion for Commercial Purposes.” Earlier reports indicated freedom fighters, journalists, photographers, and netizens had apposed the bill. Rodriguez earlier said there will be no more House Bill 4807 because House lawmakers will not take it up in the plenary for the third reading. Also, he said he had met with members of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) and some photographers for a discussion on the bill. He said that in his letter to House committee on rules chairman Rep. Neptali Gonzales II he has “re-committed” the bill to the House committee on public information. “The NUJP told me that it [the bill] may somehow Read More …

Aya Medel (MNS photo) A sexy actress during the 1990s is now a chef and restaurateur in her hometown in Albay. Aya Medel, who was known as “Papaya Queen,” discussed her journey from posing nude in front of a camera to starting her own restaurant named IshiAya’s Garden Bistro. “Nagluluto na talaga ako noon pa. Nag-eenjoy lang ako sa set. Pero after, naiiyak ako,” she said. “Dapat kasi ine-enjoy ko ang teen life, nasa school. Pero matigas ang ulo ko at gusto ko kumita. Hindi naman ako nagagalaw. Trabaho lang ito,” she added. She went on to star in several other films such as “Babae sa Bubungang Lata” (1997) and “Venus” (2001).
