KTLA News Anchor Cher Calvin to host Miss Philippines USA 2014

Fil-Am KTLA-TV News anchor Cher Calvin and Fox News TV personality Tony Cabrera will both host the 2014 Miss Philippines USA 2014, to be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014, 6 p.m. at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, 320 South Mission Drive, San Gabriel, California 91776. Pageant Producer and Creative Director Lou Razon of Lou Razon Designs, the mission of Miss Philipines USA (MPUSA) is to “develop the finest ambassadors of goodwill and role models for Filipino American women, to raise scholarship funds, to bring awareness on Filipino culture and become an advocate of education through charities that promote education.” The pageant’s long term objective is for the pageant’s Fil-Am winners to be recognized by participating in other worldwide and international pageant competitions. Why Piolo, Shaina decided to stay as friends

Piolo Pascual and Shaina Magdayao (MNS photo) A day after Shaina Magdayao said she does not mind being single, it’s actor Piolo Pascual’s turn to speak up about his ties with the young actress. Since last year, the Piolo Pascual although the two have maintained that they are just friends. Pascual admitted that he and the actress decided to end up as good friends. “She will always be a special friend, pero ‘yun lang. We are (still close). We always see each other at ‘ASAP.’ We have the same group of friends. Hindi naman malayo,” he said. Pascual also pointed out that they are both busy. “Honestly, pareho kaming busy. I guess what’s good with Shaina and I, we were able to keep the friendship, ‘yun ang importante. Parang in the long run, you want to be able to preserve the relationship you’ve started. Napakaliit ng mundo natin,” he said. “You don’t want to do all the things at the same time. Whatever is on your plate, make use of it, maximize it. Gabby Eigenmann plays gay man in ‘Dading’

GABBY Eigenmann (MNS photo) GABBY Eigenmann is ready to take his biggest challenge on television – portraying a gay man in the newest afternoon series “Dading”. In his almost two decades in the entertainment industry, he has played similar roles but the 36-year-old said this is still something new to him as the project will run for months as a regular series. The actor recalled that he was in Japan vacationing with the whole family when his manager, Perry Lansigan, told him that there’s a show lined-up for him. It become apparent to Gabby that this project is something special as he started to get congratulatory messages and tweets from co-actors and friends in the business. “Pagbalik ko, hindi ko akalain na ganito. People started texting me, people tweeting. Ako I didn’t know that it’s going to be a big deal kasi nga sa akin unang inisip ko na trabaho lang,” he said. “I’ve been patient for the longest time, and it’s not like I’m patient and not doing anything because marami naman. Patient but working. Kung nakita nyo na maganda yung ginawa ko, thank you. Kung hindi mapansin, gawa ulit tayo ng bago. Kaya nagulat ako na ganito,” Eigenmann added. COA exec: No direct proof Revilla got money from Napoles

(MNS photo) MANILA, (Mabuhay) – A Commission on Audit official on Thursday admitted not seeing documents to show that Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr and his staff directly received kickbacks from Janet Lim-Napoles, but maintained the senator’s actions endorsing NGOs were “irregular.” “No, we don’t have (but) he (Revilla) endorsed NABCOR as one of the implementing agencies. He endorsed the NGO to be a partner in the implementation of the project, and he assigned his legislative staff lawyer (Richard Cambe) as his representative,” Susan Garcia, COA assistant commissioner, told the Sandiganbayan First Division during Revilla’s bail hearing. She was the director of the COA Special Audit Office which conducted the audit on the Priority Development Assistance Fund when the scam was exposed. The other implementing agencies endorsed by Revilla were Technology Resource Center and National Livelihood and Development Corporation. The endorsed NGOs were Masaganang Ani Para sa Magsasaka Foundation Inc., Social Development Program for Farmers Development (SDPFFI), Agri & Economic Program for Farmers Foundation. During the hearing, Associate Justice Rodolfo Ponferrada asked Garcia if Revilla’s acts were wrong. UP Alumni of Greater LA (UPAAGLA) welcomes UP President Alfredo Pascual

The University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Greater Los Angeles (UPAAGLA), led by its current President, Vicky Achacoso-Gancayco hosted a warm reception for the university’s 20th President Alfredo “Fred” Pascual at the Silverlake Medical Center Conference Hall on a Labor Day holiday weekend, last Saturday. The reception started with welcome remarks by emcee Maning Rivera, invocation by Bobby Canseco, followed by former Madrigal singer Annie Nepomuceno leading the crowd by singing the Star Spangled Banner and Lupang Hinirang. In her welcome remarks, UPAAGLA President Vicky Gancayco thanked everyone who came inspite of the long weekend, not only to give a warm welcome to UP’s 20th President Fred Pascual, but to network with co-UP alumni in providing a platform to enable the organization maintain its current mission of scholarship programs, where they most recently have awarded four (4) scholarships to students displaced by typhoon Yolanda in UP Visayas. Consul General Leo Herrera Lim, a UP alumnus himself, attended along with his wife Fides.  Ambassador Ed Espiritu, also a UP alumnus attended the event with his wife. Next-gen Mazda2 to be connected

The fourth-generation Mazda2 will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.©Mazda (Relaxnews) – Japanese manufacturer Mazda has presented the latest generation of its sub-compact city car, which now boasts a new on-board connectivity system and an updated style. The model is slated to make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. The design of the new Mazda2 is based on the Hazumi concept displayed at the Geneva Motor Show last spring. According to Mazda, the Japanese word “Hazumi” means both “bound” and “spring up” and was chosen to describe a vehicle that is small but “bursting with energy.” The future model will be available with the new Skyactiv-D 1.5 diesel engine with 105hp or with one of the Skyactiv-G 1.5 fuel engines ranging in power from 75 to 105hp. On the inside, the driver and passengers will enjoy the MZD Connect system, which offers access to a range of internet features through a 7-inch screen. Mazda announced that it has just begun producing the vehicle in Japan, where it is marketed as the Demio. The new vehicle will be unveiled to the public at the Paris Motor Show in October before its global launch in the following months.
