Corona and his wife Cristina on the tax evasion case filed against them. The CTA 2nd Division granted the motion to suspend arraignment and reset it to Aug. 27, 2014. It said that the arraignment was suspended due to pending petitions, which include the motion to review the case with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the motion to quash the case for lack of probable cause filed by Corona’s camp. The CTA added that the camp of Corona is also set to submit within three days a supplemental motion in its earlier plea to quash the tax evasion case for lack of probable cause. No member of the CA’s committees on labor, employment and social welfare objected when a member moved to recommend Soliman’s confirmation for plenary approval. ABONO Partylist Representative Conrado Estrella, chairman of the House of Representatives’ contingent to the CA, said Soliman’s confirmation would be tackled in the plenary next week. Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who wrote Estrella about her plan to block Soliman’s confirmation by invoking Section 20 of the CA’s rules, was absent during the hearing.
