Kasi gusto niya daw by example, para hindi naman sabihin nung iba na, ‘Bakit ikaw, hindi mo ginawa yung lifestyle check sa sarili mo?’,” Henares said. Henares said that after Roxas, the lifestyle check will be conducted on the highest ranking PNP officials, starting with Purisima. She, however, clarified that not all the 150,000 PNP members will be subjected to the lifestyle check as earlier reported by some media outfits. Prioritization “Hindi naman lahat. Binay insists no corruption in Makati projects

Vice President Jejomar Binay hits back at his accusers during a televised press conference at the PICC in Pasay City on Thursday, September 18. Binay denied receiving kickbacks from the construction of the Makati City Hall Building II and from other projects in the city during his term as mayor. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday insisted that there is no corruption in Makati projects, including the alleged overpriced Makati parking building, and said those who testified in the Senate hearing have been rejected by Makati residents many times as unfit to be public servants. Binay said the same allegations of corruption have been resurrected throughout his political life. Binay pointed out that the Makati City Hall Bldg 2 project underwent 10 audits by Commission on Audit over a period of five years, and there has not been an instance of alarm issued by COA. He cited several government-construction projects, and quoted what he termed were comparable or lower figures. Binay asserted that the overpricing accusations attributed to former vice-mayor Ernesto Mercado cannot hold water because there was not a single credible document to back up the verbal claims. “Walang ipinakitang ebidensiya. Hindi ito tatayo sa hukuman. Ipinakita lang ito sa mala-circus na pagdinig ng Senado,” he said. Reiterating that all transactions during his term as mayor were above board, he said the allegations against him were old issues being rehashed time and again. The Vice-President slammed some senators for taking the word of a Read More …

God just goes ahead and does whatever is in His hands. I just say okay,” Santiago says. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago admitted Thursday that she received funds for her projects but clarified that she was not informed that it was sourced from the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP). In a press statement, Santiago said she was even surprised upon seeing her name on the list of legislators who received DAP allocations. “In my case, a few months ago, I even requested from the DBM (Department of Budget and Management) a list of any DAP releases to me. It took them some time to give me the list. And when I received it, even I was surprised, because when my Office reportedly received the funds, they were not identified as DAP funds,” she said. Santiago maintained that she did not ask for any DAP releases made to her. “They must have been received in due course by my Office, from the Senate secretariat. If so, I would have assigned the funds to my usual PDAF projects – such as the UP system throughout the country, PGH, other hospitals, or local government units – but certainly not to NGOs,” she said. She added that the usual practice was for the Senate secretariat to inform a senator that Read More …

Isko insists truck ban didn’t cause port congestion

President Benigno S. Aquino III listens to the briefing on the status of the volume of passengers by SWIPTS terminal manager Dir. Amante Salvador during the inspection on the security arrangements and facilities at the Southwest Integrated Provincial Transport System (SWIPTS) departure area at the Uniwide Coastal Mall in Baclaran, Parañaque City on Thursday (October 31, 2013) to ensure the safety of the passengers for the observance of the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day during the Visit to Major Terminals in Metro Manila for DOTC’s Undas 2013 “Oplan Ligtas Biyahe”. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – The Manila City government may have lifted its daytime truck ban but it insists the ban did not cause the port congestion. Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno said the port congestion is due to the failures of national government agencies. He said the national government is only using the city government of Manila as a scapegoat for its failures. “Blame sila ng blame. Ang scapegoat Manila. Hindi inaamin ng national government yung mga iresponsableng tao doon sa iba’t-ibang ahensya ng gobyerno, na ang port congestion, before truck ban, ay meron na,” he said. “With or without truck ban, you will have port congestion. Anong mga reasons? Inefficiency in different agencies. Maybe there’s a problem with BOC (Bureau of Customs), PPA (Philippine Ports Authority), DOTC (Department of Transportation and Communications), or maybe there’s a problem with allowing green-plated trucks, for example LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board), he added. Moreno also noted that the Read More …
