Pacquiao invokes God, will ‘win’ over Mayweather

Photo Credit: Chris Farina / Top Rank Manila, Philippines (AFP) Tuesday 4/28/2015 – Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao is confident he can beat American arch-rival Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas on Saturday with the power of God, after abandoning a life he said was packed with sin condemning him to hell. Pacquiao is in top form both in mind and spirit after he traded his boozing, gambling and womanising ways for a devout life of prayer, his spiritual adviser, Jeric Soriano, told AFP in a recent Manila interview. “Manny is a God-fearing man. Inside his heart of hearts he really loved God. Except the world got to him,” Soriano said of Pacquiao’s party-boy lifestyle before he became born-again in 2012. Pacquiao now dreams of becoming a pastor and is building a 6,000-square metre (1.5-acre) “worship house” in his southern Philippine hometown of General Santos as a monument to his spiritual rebirth, Soriano said. With Soriano’s help, Pacquiao a few years ago converted to the born-again faith, which shuns many Catholic traditions such as religious images but emphasises strict adherence to the bible. He is now building a church, to be called: “The Word for Everyone” and which can accommodate up 5,000 people, in his southern hometown of General Santos, pastor Boy Buan, who is overseeing the construction, told AFP. ‘I was a sinner’ In 2012, Pacquiao acknowledged he had succumbed Read More …

New Mustang will be the fastest Ford ever sold in Europe

New Mustang will be the fastest Ford ever sold in Europe. (Relaxnews) – At a special live-streamed event on Monday, Ford continued to stoke up excitement about the latest iteration of its classic muscle car – set to go on sale in Europe for the first time in its 50-year history—by demonstrating its vital performance statistics. And those statistics are very impressive: the 5-liter normally aspirated V8 version of the car will be able to accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.8 seconds, making it faster than the 2005 Ford GT hypercar and as quick as the current Porsche Cayman and Bentley Continental GT V8, yet significantly cheaper than either. Even the entry-level model that uses a much smaller, efficient 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine can still manage the 0-100kph sprint in 5.8 seconds, which is very respectable, especially considering it’s also capable of returning 35mpg. Officially bringing the pony car to Europe is a potential gamble for Ford and that’s partly why the company has been hyping up its imminent arrival since the end of 2013 – it’s as much to gauge a reaction as it is to get customers to reorder the car. Ford has an enviable reputation for performance, racing, quality and value for money in the EU thanks to a host of fabulous, European-built or European-developed cars that goes right back to the original Le mans-winning GT40 of the 1960s and includes a host of hot and hotter hatchbacks such as the Sierra and Escort Cosworths and the current Read More …

KC Concepcion (MNS Photo) Actress-host KC Concepcion has proudly declared that she is happier after her much publicized break-up with Paulo Avelino. I’m focusing on my endorsements. I’m still with ABS-CBN, of course, but for now, gusto ko muna maging best beautiful version of myself,” she said. Paulo Avelino (MNS photo) Asked if she is now dating anybody, the actress suddenly changed the topic and said: “I have three new endorsements coming out. Aquino III shares the stage with Brunei Darussalam Prime Minister His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Republic of Indonesia Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Malaysian Prime Minister The Honourable Dato Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak for a snap shot during the 11th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit at the Grand Ballroom 2 of the Langkawi International Convention Centre on Tuesday (April 28, 2015). (MNS Photo) Langkawi, Malaysia (AFP)  – Reclamation work in the disputed South China Sea, where China has constructed an airstrip and other structures on coral reefs, threaten to “undermine peace, security and stability” in the region, Southeast Asian leaders warned Monday. Beijing’s assertion of sovereignty over almost all the sea – also claimed in parts by several other Asian nations – has set off alarm bells with its neighbors and beyond as China stakes its claim with growing boldness. A statement to be issued at the close of the one-day summit in Malaysia notes “serious concerns” over land reclamation on reefs whose sovereignty is contested. The work has triggered fears of tightening Chinese control over the seaway. “We share the serious concerns expressed by some leaders on the land reclamation being undertaken in the South China Sea, which has eroded trust and confidence and may undermine peace, security and stability,” said the statement by summit chair Malaysia, seen by AFP, which did not mention China by name. Along with Taiwan, Association of Southeast Asian Nations Read More …

(MNS Photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – With only a little over a year before the Aquino administration ends, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Tuesday said the Department of Justice was busy squeezing in as many “urgent” cases to resolve as possible. And apparently, the third batch of cases on the P10-billion pork barrel fund scam and those on the P900-million Malampaya fund mess are not among them. “I don’t know if kasama iyang (third batch of pork barrel scam cases and Malampaya scam case) sa magiging concentration and focus ko because there are really very important matters on my table,” De Lima told reporters. “Hindi ko na rin kasi natutukan because may iba na rin na mas urgent cases na I had to personally attand to,” she said. On Monday, De Lima revealed she was drawing up a “list” of priority cases she intends to have resolved before leaving the Department of Justice. She said this had been keeping her busy, even as she belied rumors that she was planning to resign in June to prepare for her supposed senatorial bid in May next year. De Lima however said the DOJ would do its best “para Read More …

Lacson: ‘I’d send corrupt friends to jail if I were president’

President Benigno S. Aquino III congratulates Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery former Senator Panfilo Lacson after administering the oath in a ceremony at the President’s Hall of the Malacañan Palace on Tuesday (December 10). The “rehabilitation czar” is the man in charge to oversee the overall efforts being undertaken by the national government in reconstructing the areas destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas region. (MNS photo) MANILA, Apr 28 (Mabuhay) – Former senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said Tuesday that if he were president he would send his friends or allies to jail if they were proven corrupt. Interviewed on cable news television, Lacson said he was “seriously considering” seeking the country’s top political post and that he would be running on a strong anti-corruption platform. “There should only be one standard. When you fight corruption, you don’t find who are your allies, your friends or enemies,” Lacson said. Told by the host that his anti-corruption stance sounded similar to that of President Joseph Estrada’s “Walang kamag-anak, walang kaibigan” slogan, Lacson said “It should be that way. But implementing it is a different matter.” Lacson cited an example from his days as PNP chief. He said he had a “kumpare,” a regional director in the PNP, his “long-time friend, and comrade in Cebu.” “Sinabi ko na no-take tayo sa jueteng. (I said we should not take money from illegal gambling) Nung makita sa blue book (ng jueteng protectors) ang pangalan niya, right away I called him ‘You have Read More …
