By SCE Newsroom Staff SCE crews help restore power to downtown Long Beach. Photo: Ernesto Sanchez/SCE Southern California Edison (SCE) crews have restored service to all customers affected by the Long Beach outage. Some customers who had been on SCE-provided generators have had their power transferred back from the generator to the SCE system. Additional outages may occur as a result of the current rain storm. If you are still without power, please reset your circuit breakers. If your power remains off, call SCE Customer Service at 1-800-655-4555. Representatives can help walk you through the circuit breaker procedure or identify if another issue exists. Once power is fully restored to the area, final repairs on the system will continue for the near future until the system is returned to its full operational capacity, so residents may continue to see SCE crews working in the area. SCE thanks the city of Long Beach, and its dedicated staff, for its cooperation during this incident, and for the especially important safety efforts of first responders in the Long Beach Fire and Police departments. The outages began at 3:08 p.m. Wednesday. They appear to be the result of failure of equipment in the underground system in the downtown area where several underground vaults were damaged. Underground systems are more difficult to evaluate, test and repair than overhead wires and work is progressing as quickly and as safely as possible. Customers may inquire about outages at 1-800-611-1911 and get the latest information from the outage page at www.sce.com/outages or by downloading the SCE outages Read More …

The Philippines said the military assets will be located in Subic Bay, some 200 kilometers (125 miles) from a shoal off the northern Philippines controlled by Chinese forces, said Arsenio Andolong, the defense department’s public affairs chief. Manila, Philippines (AFP) – The Philippines plans to station fighter jets and frigates on a former US naval base facing the South China Sea, where it is engaged in a maritime row with China, a defence official said Monday. They will be located in Subic Bay, some 200 kilometers (125 miles) from a shoal off the northern Philippines controlled by Chinese forces, said Arsenio Andolong, the defense department’s public affairs chief. The Armed Forces of the Philippines “will use portions of Subic for the new assets coming in like the FA-50 (jets) and the new vessels that are arriving,” Andolong told AFP. “They (the Subic facilities) are ideal: it has a deep-water port, the runways are perfect for the FA-50,” he added. Manila said last week it would reopen Subic Bay – one of the US’s largest overseas bases until it was shut down more than two decades ago – and station Filipino military assets there for the first time. Andolong said the military has leased part of Subic Bay for 15 years and plans to use it as a base for new equipment that will be bought over the next few years as part of a modernization program. The first pair of a dozen FA-50 fighter jets are scheduled to be delivered Read More …

By Daniel HICKS Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao (right) poses with the head of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) Setya Novanto during a courtesy call in Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday. Pacquiao earlier visited convicted Filipino drug mule Mary Jane Veloso at an Indonesian prison. (MNS photo) Macau, Macau (AFP) – Veteran boxing promoter Bob Arum has blasted the injured Manny Pacquiao for missing a planned rehab visit to his doctor and says he has no idea when “Pacman” might return to the ring. After watching Argentina’s Cesar Cuenca beat China’s “IK” Yang to lift the IBF junior welterweight title in Macau’s Cotai Arena on Saturday night, the 83-year-old Top Rank chief Arum responded angrily when asked when Pacquiao might fight again. “As far as I’m concerned he’s not an active fighter,” said Arum, adding that Pacquiao had “not been acting very professionally.” Pacquiao had surgery on May 7 to repair a torn right shoulder rotator cuff sustained in the unanimous points defeat against Floyd Mayweather in the richest fight of all time in Las Vegas five days earlier. But Arum confirmed the Philippines congressman cancelled a planned check-up with his surgeon Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles on July 4. “Pacquiao was supposed to come over to see the doctor and for some reason he decided to cancel it,” Arum told AFP. “So he’s not acting very professionally.” Just days after he had been due to see the surgeon, Pacquiao instead travelled to Indonesia in a Read More …

The said complaint was filed by Junjun Binay at the Office of the Makati City Prosecutor. The Vice President and his camp have repeatedly denied all the corruption allegations hurled against them, saying these were part of an operation to diminish Binay’s chances of winning in the 2016 presidential elections. VP Binay and Junjun Binay were charged with plunder and graft in December 2014 for the alleged overpricing of the construction of the Makati City Science High School. In a weekly news form in Manila, Estrada said platforms weigh more to him that his close ties with Poe and Binay. “At the end of the day, titignan ko kung sino ang higit na makatutulong sa higit na nakararami, for the greatest good of the greatest number—the masses,” said Estrada, whose pro-poor stance catapulted him to the presidency in 1998. He also reiterated that he is torn between Poe and Binay as both are close to him. “Si Vice President Binay kumpareng buo ko. Si Senator Grace, inaanak ko sa kasal, anak ba ng kaibigang matalik ko,” he said, referring to Poe’s father, the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. “Mahihirapan ako but I have to decide,” Estrada said. “Kung sino ang nakikita kong maganda ang plataporma, ‘yun ang susuportahan ko sa huli. I owe it to the people of the Philippines. Hindi dahil sa kumpare o inaanak ko [ay] susuportahan na agad. Kung sino ang makapagbibigay ng makabubuti sa bayan, doon ako pupunta,” he added.
