Robredo: Expedite full implementation of RAIN program to combat effects of El Niño

Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo delivers her speech message during a meeting of thousands of fishermen, farmers, indigenous peoples (IPs) and other groups from different regions and provinces of the country at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City on Friday (April 15, 2016). (MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) – Liberal Party (LP) vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo urges the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) to fully accelerate the implementation of the P19-billion Roadmap to Address the Impact of El Niño (RAIN) to effectively combat the effects of dry spell on the agriculture sector. “Hanggang ngayon, marami pa ring lugar ang apektado ng El Niño na hindi pa rin nararamdaman ang buong tulong ng pamahalaan. Kaya marapat lang na ipatupad nang buo ang RAIN para malabanan ang epekto ng tagtuyot,” said Robredo. “Ginawa ang roadmap na ito upang labanan ang pagtuyot kaya dapat nating itodo ang lahat ng tulong, lalo na sa mga magsasaka, na direktang naapektuhan ng El Niño,” she added. Robredo even mentioned the NEDA’s latest report to Malacanang, underscoring the need to increase support for farmers to augment their incomes through programs such as cash-for-work and emergency employment. The RAIN is aimed at mitigating the impact of the El Niño phenomenon on four areas –food security, energy security, health and safety. The action plan focuses on 67 El Niño-affected provinces throughout the country, including Metro Manila. “Dapat nang maisakatuparan ang plano upang mabawasan ang pasaning dala ng ating mga magsasaka at matulungan silang makatawid habang naghihintay na Read More …

How Jewel Mische met American husband

Jewel Mische (MNS photo) It started with a simple message. On an online website, former actress Jewel Mische read the testimony of a Michigan-born American named Alister Kurzer about the beauty of keeping one’s virginity until marriage. “I only signed up [for the website] just because I was curious,” admitted Mische. “And then I saw his testimony. It moved me, I messaged him, and that started everything.” For Mische, she could not have asked for a better husband. She said that Kurzer, who had no idea she was a celebrity, is her dream man and more. Mische praised the American for being brave enough to admit that he was a virgin and that she fell in love with him because of his stern faith in God. “He was very bold in saying, ‘I want to stay pure for my future wife. And if you don’t appreciate that then you’re not my future wife.’ …I could just feel the conviction in every word that he said,” Mische said. Asked about how he managed to keep his “purity” before marriage, Kurzer said that one only needs to stay true to the boundaries and guidelines one has set for his or her own life. “As a guy, you really want to set a path you want to walk on and not step off to the left or to the right. And I really thought about my future wife and I really wanted to make her happy,” he said. Mische and Kurzer married back Read More …

Alex Medina still dreams of becoming a rock star

Alex Medina (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — If he didn’t become an actor, Alex Medina would have likely pursued a career as a rock musician. Medina, whose latest movie “Echorsis” opened in theaters on April 13, revealed that his first love is actually music. “‘Yun talaga ang first love ko. Gusto ko maging rock star,” Medina said in an interview. In fact, Medina is planning to record an album. “‘Yun muna for now. Sabi ko let’s think of a plan na logical,” he said. Medina shared that he had a band when he was in high school. He also had a band Alex In Wonderland in 2009. After they disbanded, Medina with his friend formed another band Alex in Chains last year. “Nagyaya ulit ‘yung friend ko na isa na gumawa ng cover band na ’90s, mga grunge, mga Nirvana. So Alex In Chains naman ang ginawa namin,” he recalled. Medina’s musical influences include guitarist Jeff Buckley, who died in 1997 having done only one complete studio album “Grace.” “Kahit isa lang na album eh okay na ako. Alam mo ‘yung makagawa ka ng iiwan mo sa mundo na ito, mag-iwan ka ng mga kantang maalala ka,” Medina said. But while music is his first love, Medina vowed never turn his back on acting. Currently, he can be seen in the hit series “Ang Probinsyano.” (MNS)

John Lloyd on doing love scenes: It’s challenging

John Lloyd Cruz (MNS Photo) Actor John Lloyd Cruz admitted that it is not easy for him to do a love scene. Cruz stars in the upcoming romantic movie “Just the 3 of Us” with Jennylyn Mercado. “Hindi kasi nare-realize ng tao kung gaano kahirap ‘yung gumawa ng [love scene]… Kasi kapag tapos nang gawin at na-edit na, ang nakikita niyo is ‘yung finished na. Pero sa totoo lang po, isa ‘yan sa pinaka-challenging na gawin. Kasi you are talking about intimacy with another person—minsan stranger pa nga,” he explained. When asked if he finds love scenes more challenging than dramatic scenes, Cruz replied: “Well, magkaiba naman po. Iba kasi ‘yung, let’s say, confrontational scene. Kung ikukumpara mo sa love scene ay magkaiba sila, at ‘yung dini-demand nila from you ay magkalayo. But sometimes, nakakatulong kung you really know the character very well at kung gaano ka-willing ‘yung partner mo.” “Given all that, minsan nangangatog pa rin ako dahil, hindi ba, you have to be intimate with the other person?” he added. Cruz went on to reveal that he still feels awkward shooting intimate scenes with his long-time on-screen partner, Bea Alonzo. “Kahit kami ni Bea, kahit ilang taon na kaming gumawa ng pelikula, mayroon pa ring [ilang sa isa’t isa]. Kasi bukod sa gusto mong ma-achieve [’yung gusto ng direktor], you want to be able to protect your leading lady, hindi ba? Siyempre kung mahirap sa ‘yo, sobrang hirap lalo noon sa kanya kasi babae siya. Feeling ko, kailangan Read More …
