Napoles arraignment reset to Sept. 23

(MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) -– The Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 has reset the arraignment of businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles to September 23 at 1:30 p.m. Makati RTC Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda granted the motion of the camp of Napoles which sought the postponement of the September 9 arraignment. Napoles is facing serious illegal detention case filed by key pork barrel scam whistleblower, Benhur Luy. Napoles’ camp sought the postponement of the arraignment since the businesswoman still has pending motions with the Court of Appeals and the Makati RTC Branch 150. Napoles is currently detained at Fort Santo Domingo in Laguna.(MNS)

President Aquino cites support of Davaoeños in making government reforms possible

Aquino III cited the people of Davao for supporting his administration’s reform program saying that with their help, his agenda of ridding government of graft and corruption is now bearing fruit. In his speech during a meeting with local leaders and the community at the Rizal Park here on Wednesday, the President said that after a little over two years in office, the benefits of an efficient and effective government that is made for the people is nearing realization. He said that through the implementation of infrastructure, education, and business programs in the province, more prosperity has been coming to the people and the province of Davao. “Mula po sa ipinagkaloob ninyong tiwala noong nakaraang halalan, hanggang sa patuloy ninyong pakikiisa sa tuwid na daan, lagi po tayong makakaasa sa suporta’t pakikiisa ng mga Davaoeño. Tagle: I don’t know much about choosing the next Pope

(MNS photo) MANILA, Feb 18 (Mabuhay) – Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle admitted that as a newbie cardinal, he still does not know much about the process of selecting a new pope. “Inaamin ko po, hindi ko pa alam kung anong gagawin, kung paano boboto,” he said, adding that this function is something that he is still studying and contemplating much about. Asked by the media about his preparations for the upcoming conclave, he said all he is doing for now is to pray. He said he does not even know as to when he will be called to the Vatican. He said he was “caught by surprise” by Pope Benedict XVI’s sudden resignation this month. Pinoy sailor killed by pirate in Nigeria – DFA

(MNS photo) MANILA, Feb 6 (Mabuhay) – A Filipino seaman of a Marshall-flagged chemical tanker was shot on board the vessel by a pirate in Nigeria, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Wednesday. DFA Spokesman Raul Hernandez said the Filipino, whose identity he declined to disclose, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. “The family of the fatality has already been informed of this sad development,” Hernandez told a press briefing. The vessel Pyxis Delta, hijacked on February 4, had eight other Filipino crewmembers. They are all safe on board the ship, which is anchored off the coast of Nigeria, Hernandez said. (MNS)
