leni robredoMANILA  (Mabuhay) – The legal team of leading vice presidential aspirant Rep. Leni Robredo on Wednesday said candidates win elections based on votes counted not graphs showing the voting trend.

Robredo’s legal team made the statement after the camp of Sen. Bonbong Marcos showed a V-shaped graph indicating the shift of the lead from Marcos to Robredo.

“Graph is not a basis. Winning one election is not based on graph but based in votes counted,”  said election lawyer Atty. Romulo Macalintal at a press conference in Quezon City.

Macalintal said they expect the same voting trend to show up once Congress, sitting as the national board of canvassers (NBOC), starts canvassing the votes for president and vice president.

Macalintal said Marcos will most likely take the initial lead in the partial and official tally as the votes from the senator’s bailiwicks came in first while the votes from Robredo’s bailiwicks followed later.

Meanwhile, former Justice Secretary and newly elected Senator Leila De Lima, who is also part of Robredo’s legal team, said the voting trend does not show any evidence of fraud.

“Purely speculative, no proof at all. No evidence at all na naapektuhan ang resulta,” De Lima said.

De Lima noted that the burden of proof or the need to present evidence of fraud lies with the Marcos camp. (MNS)
