One of the features of the celebration of Public Power Week in the City of Anaheim from October 6-12 is the opportunity for participants “to see a bird’s eye view of the City while taking a ride in bucket trucks”.
Although the attraction doesn’t compare with the exhilarating experience of the Great Park balloon in the City of Irvine where passengers soar 400 feet above ground for a 360-degree view that spans 40 miles, the experience will add up to the value of being at the Downtown Anaheim Farmers Market where Anaheim Public Utilities will host a variety of exhibits on energy conservation, electric vehicles, emergency preparedness and electrical safety.
Anaheim Public Utilities, the only municipal electric utility in Orange County which serves more than 346,000 residents and 15,000 businesses including manufacturing, entertainment, sports and tourism customers will join other electric utilities across the country in the week-long celebration.
The celebration of Public Power Week “is a great opportunity to showcase the value of a locally-owned utility” according to Dukku Lee, Assistant General Manager of Electric Services who considers public utility as a valuable community asset where decisions are made in the best interest of Anaheim customers and the local economy.
APU is a municipal not-for-profit utility that bases its rates on providing high quality electric service at the lowest average costs in the surrounding area.
APU is known for its innovative approach to electric service with its Park Substation, the first underground substation in the U.S., the Underground Conversion Program which helps in beautifying the city’s major roadways by placing overhead power lines underground, and the Canyon Power Project, the city’s Silver LEED certified, 200-megawatt natural gas generating facility which provides the power needs of Anaheim’s customers when demand is highest and supply is scarce. The firm also claims to help customers reduce their bills through rebates on appliances, giving out free shade trees that reduce air-conditioning use and conducting free energy surveys of homes and businesses.
