2014 was a banner year for actor Allen Dizon, having earned for himself international recognition as actor for his performance in James Lacsamana’s “Magkakabaung (Coffin Maker).”
Apart from winning Best Actor at the 9th Harlem International Film Festival in New York USA, Allen also adjudged Best Actor at the 3rd Hanoi International Film Festival.
Prior, “Magkakabaung (Coffin Maker)” was also screened at the 38th Montreal International Film Festival, together with Joel Lamangan’s “Kamkam (Greed),” which Allen also stars in.
At the moment, Allen has started filming for “Daluyong (Storm Surge),” written by Ricky Lee and directed by Mel Chionglo.
Here, Allen plays a priest accused of murder. “It’s truly a complex role… and it’s really very challenging,” he said.
And if he is so excited about his latest film project, it’s because “reunion movie namin ito ni Direk Mel and Sir Ricky after ‘Twilight Dancers’ at nanalo pa ako ng Best Actor sa Pasado Awards last 2013 for ‘Lauriana,’ kaya pag Mel Chionglo-Ricky Lee tandem saludo ako.”
As to what preparations he made for “Daluyong,” Dizon said “I have friends who are priests, nakakalaro ko sila sa tennis so, pinagaaralan ang kanilang mga galaw at pananalita nila. Ang dami ko rin binasa na libro para maging pamilyar ako sa ginagampanan kong role.”
Playing his leading lady in “Daluyong” is Diana Zubiri. It is the first time they’re working together and Allen has expressed excitement about it. “Alam ko magaling umarte si Diana, at maganda pa…Bilib din ako sa kanya na nakatapos siya ng college kahit busy sa career niya.” (MNS)
