20 February 2014 – President Benigno S. Aquino III will undertake a State Visit to Malaysia on 27-28 February 2014, upon the invitation of His Majesty The Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, the Head of State of Malaysia, and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak.
The President and Prime Minister Najib are expected to discuss the upcoming signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro. The government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) signed the Annex on Normalization, the last of the four annexes of the GPH-MILF Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro, on 25 January 2014. Malaysia has facilitated the GPH-MILF peace talks since 2001, and has also hosted the talks in Kuala Lumpur.
They will also discuss matters of mutual concern between the Philippines and Malaysia, including political, economic and defense cooperation.
The President will keynote a Business Opportunities Forum with members of the Malaysian business community, where he is expected to highlight the Philippines’ positive economic growth, and invite them to invest in the country, particularly in Mindanao. He will also hold meetings with Malaysian businesses and corporations.
He will also meet with the local Filipino community in Kuala Lumpur, and encourage them to promote Philippine interests and help raise the country’s profile as a resilient country and viable destination for tourism and investment.
The President will be welcomed by His Majesty The Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, who will also host him at a State Banquet.
This will be the first visit of the President to Malaysia. Prime Minister Najib visited the Philippines on 14-15 October 2012, upon the invitation of the President, to witness the signing of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro.
