Will the Revero experience better karma the second time around?

If this new premium hybrid car — the Karma Revero — looks familiar, that’s because technically speaking, this isn’t the first time the car has been launched. The Karma Revero© Karma Automotive Originally designed by Henrik Fisker, the man responsible for the aesthetics of some of the most stunning cars of this millennium like the Aston Martin DB9 and the BMW Z8, the Fisker Karma, as it was called back in 2008, was meant be the first in a line of ecologically-focused dream cars. However, luck wasn’t on Fisker’s side and the company he’d founded only managed to sell roughly 3000 cars before it went under in 2013. Three years later the company has been resurrected with a new management team and a new name — Karma. “Karma is based on the principle of cause and effect, where your actions create your future. This awareness of what we are doing and why we are doing it-which we characterize as acting with intention-is what we stand for, it’s authentic,” said James Taylor, Karma’s Chief Marketing Officer. However, what hasn’t really changed is the car. In 2008 the Fisker Karma was attractive and technologically innovative in equal measure. In 2016, while the car’s exterior is still as good-looking as that of any current road-going vehicle, the hybrid technology powering it isn’t. Karma says that the car’s inner workings have been upgraded (but hasn’t yet provided any figures) and also claims that it’s the first car ever to go on sale in the Read More …

Martial Law victims ask SC to stop hero’s burial for Marcos

Marcos is set to be transferred to the heroes’ cemetery from Batac, Ilocos Norte on September 18. (MNS photo) MANILA, Aug 15 (Mabuhay) — Martial Law victims turned to the Supreme Court on Monday to stop the government’s plan to bury the remains of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. In a petition, the victims, led by former Bayan Muna party-list Reps. Satur Ocampo, Neri Colmenares, and Bonifacio Ilagan, accused the government of grave abuse of discretion for allowing the burial. Named respondents in the petition were Rear Admiral Ernesto Enriquez, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Ricardo Visaya, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and the heirs of the late president represented by his spouse, Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos. The petitioners said the planned burial approved by President Rodrigo Duterte violates Republic Act 289, which only allows the burial of a president or soldier worthy of public inspiration and emulation. They also said the burial is contrary to public policy under the law (Republic Act 10638) that recognizes the massive human rights violations under the Marcos regime and is against the 1993 deal between the Philippine government and the Marcos family that the former leader’s remains should be buried in his home province of Ilocos Norte. Cayetano to senators: Don’t intimidate cops, don’t waste time on probe

Human rights advocates hold placards condemning extra-judicial killing during a Mass at the Redemptorist Church in Paranaque City, Wednesday. President Duterte expressed concern over unsolved killings as police forces wage a deadly war against drugs, his spokesman said.(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said the Senate should focus on crafting laws to strengthen the Philippine National Police (PNP) instead of subjecting police officers under investigation for recent drug-related killings. Cayetano issued the statement amid the impending probe by the Senate justice committee on the spate of extra-judicial slays under the Duterte administration. “We have to be responsible dito sa Senado because whatever we do here will send a message. Hindi takot ang pulis. Tapos gusto nating gamitin ang hearing para takutin sila? Hindi yata ayos ‘yun,” said Cayetano. A staunch supporter of Duterte, Cayetano ran but lost in the vice presidential elections as the President’s runningmate. According to Cayetano, among the measures the Senate should focus on are those giving protection to whistleblowers, strengthening the witness protection program, improving the national penitentiary, and creating more drug courts. “Bakit hindi ang mga ito ang unahin?,” said Cayetano, who is the author of one of several bills to hike the salaries and increase the benefits of uniformed men. Cayetano said such killings had happened in past administrations but were never classified as extralegal killings. “Ang nasa dyaryo at TV ngayon, panay extrajudicial killings. President Rodrigo R. Duterte welcomes United States of America Ambassador Philip Goldberg and Mr. Matthew Cenzer, deputy political counselor at the Music Room in Malacañan Palace on July 19.(MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) – Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella on Thursday said the Philippines’ charge d’affaires in Washington went to the US Department of State to explain President Rodrigo Duterte’s remarks against US Ambassador Philip Goldberg. “The explanations have been made. The explanations have been properly made,” Abella said without elaborating on how Filipino charge d’affaires Patrick Chuasoto explained the President’s statement. Abella also dodged questions if the Philippine government apologized to the US over the said remarks. “I’m saying that he went and explained,” he answered. Despite what the Washington journalists called “insulting” remarks against Goldberg, Duterte in a speech delivered in Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday reiterated that the Philippines remains a strong ally of the United States. But Duterte stood ground on his opinion that Goldberg should have not made comments during the election period.(MNS)

Robredo who was appointed secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) prior to the Cabinet meeting in Malacañan Palace on July 11, Monday.(MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) – Vice President Leni Robredo called on Filipinos to join in the “few voices” against extrajudicial killings and the prevailing culture of violence and hatred. Robredo, who earlier called for a serious investigation on extrajudicial killings, said there is not enough outrage on the matter yet. “I’ve been very vocal about it… But you know, I’m just one voice. Even if I’m vice president, I’m just one voice,” she said during a press conference in Pennsylvania, USA, where she was guest of honor of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA). She added: “There have been a few voices already out there against extrajudicial killings, but I think the public outcry is just not there yet. I think all of us should do our share in making sure… this has to stop.” ‘Scary’ She acknowledged that the situation is “scary in the sense na maraming nangyayari pero kaunti ‘yung [outrage].” Robredo revealed that she had just lost two of her friends – a barangay captain in Camarines Sur and a sheriff – in these killings.
