MANILA (Mabuhay) – Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on Monday called for a culture of integrity and loving service as he expressed solidarity with Filipinos taking part in activities to scrap the pork barrel system.

In a message of solidarity, Tagle also thanked the participants in the anti-pork activities for making democracy alive and active, and for advancing decency in public life.

“I pray that God may bless our efforts to develop a culture of integrity and loving service in our families, neighborhoods, schools, offices, businesses, military, government, churches and consciences,” he said.

The text of Tagle’s message was posted on the social media account of Church-run Radyo Veritas.

He also assured them of his prayers for them and for the country.

On Monday, several Filipinos went to the Quirino Grandstand in Manila to sign a people’s initiative seeking to scrap the pork barrel system.

Some groups also scheduled a march against the pork barrel system. Tagle extended his “greetings and solidarity” to them.

“Thank you for making democracy alive and active. Thank you for advancing decency in public life. Thank you for giving voice to countless victims of corruption, especially the poor and marginalized,” he said.  (MNS)
