Grace Poe and a Malacañang spokesperson on Monday brushed off the lead of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in a Social Weather Stations (SWS) pre-election survey. Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said they remain confident that administration bet Mar Roxas will win the 2016 presidential elections. “The candidates will have six months to present their platform to the people. In the meantime, survey numbers will go up or down but the only survey that matters is the one in May,” said Lacierda. President Benigno Aquino III has endorsed Roxas as his anointed successor in 2016. Roxas ranked fourth in the SWS survey conducted November 26 to 28, garnering 15 percent. The camp of Poe, meanwhile, said survey results are only snap shots of the people’s sentiments at a given time frame. “People’s sentiments change depending on what message they hear. Our resolve is to intensify and amplify the message of Sen Poe- her message of inclusive growth and good governance,” he said in a text message on Monday. “We believe that giving focus to this will convert more people into supporting her,” he added. Poe, who led previous SWS surveys, was tied with Vice President Jejomar Binay at Read More …

Gabby Concepcion topbills GMA’s May-December love affair series

Gabby Concepcion (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – GABBY Concepcion said it still surprises him when he is paired with younger female stars. The seasoned actor topbills “Because of You” with leading lady Carla Abellana. It started last Monday, November 30. Concepcion recalled that when the project was first offered to him, he was so excited because it is something different from his past teleseryes. He said this is light and timely for the Christmas season. But he did not expect to be paired with Abellana, who is a year younger than his 30-year-old daughter KC Concepcion. “Masayang kasama si Carla at naaalala ko yung daddy niya pag nakikita ko siya,” he said, remembering the actress’ father and also their co-star in the series, Rey “PJ” Abellana. Concepcion, 51, said as much as it surprises him, he does not want to think of the big age gap. He is focused on positive things such as working with the new breed of talents. “I’m very grateful and thankful kasi nothing to complain about sa kanila. These are a new breed of stars. It’s a new generation and I don’t belong to this Read More …

What husband, kids think of Donna Cruz comeback

Donna Cruz (MNS Photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — After 15 years, Donna Cruz is returning to her first love — singing. Cruz said she consulted her husband as she considered joining the music industry once more. “Na-miss ko kasi talaga namang first love ko naman ‘yong singing. Even my husband knows that. So sa ngayon na kinausap ko nga siya, sabi ko, ‘Honey, I think okay na — malalaki na rin naman ‘yong kids natin — kung bibigyan ko naman ng panahon ‘yong sarili ko and ‘yong kaligayahan ko rin sa pagkanta.’ So I think wala namang problema sa kanya,” she recalled. She denied speculations that her husband is against her decision. “It’s a mutual decision naman eh. Kasi ako talaga ‘yong tipong mommy na talagang pag nag-focus ako sa mga anak ko, nasa kanila talaga. Sabi ko nga, gusto kong ma-build ‘yong mommy and kids na samahan. Gusto ko talaga malapit ako sa mga anak ko,” she said. The 38-year-old actress is married to Yong Larrazabal, an ophthalmologist from Cebu. According to Cruz, her children’s support inspired her the most to return to recording. “Sobrang hindi talaga mawawala sa akin ‘yong love ko sa singing so gusto ko talaga even before pa. Kaya lang ayokong pumasok sa paggawa ng album or whatever kung hindi pa handa yung pakiramdam ko na iwan ‘yong mga anak ko maliliit pa eh. Ngayon, okay na silang iwan — kumbaga sobrang nakatatak na ako sa kanila,” she said. Cruz went on to assure her fans Read More …

Bongbong lashes at Dinky

— Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (right) presses hands with admirers during his speaking engagement at the Unibersidad de Manila on Wednesday. Marcos is touring universities to talk about the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), which his committee handles in the Senate. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong” R. Marcos  Jr. blamed Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman for the wastage of food packs and sacks of rice discovered dumped in Dagami, Leyte. Marcos said the DSWD chief had admitted the rice and food packs were from the DSWD warehouses but clarified that they were intended to be distributed to those affected by typhoons  “Ruby” and “Glenda” last year and not for survivors of super-typhoon “Yolanda” that directly  hit eastern Visayas, including Tacloban city,  two  years ago. Her cited reports quoting Soliman that the DSWD is investigating why the relief goods were not given out. Marcos’ mother, the former First Lady and currently Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Romualdez Marcos, is from, Tacloban City. Marcos stressed that Soliman cannot simply toss the responsibility for this mess to her underlings. ‘’She is the one ultimately responsible,” Marcos said. ‘’The DSWD claimed it has learned its lesson and even acquired a mechanized repacking system and yet this unconscionable wastage of relief goods continues to happen,” Marcos deplored. “According to Soliman the goods buried in the area are no longer fit for human consumption. Initial reports estimates that around 500 sacks of spoiled rice were disposed Read More …
