Dingdong speaks up about ‘royal wedding’

Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes (MNS Photo) Two weeks after he married Marian Rivera in what many dubbed as a “royal wedding,” Dingdong Dantes finally broke his silence and addressed his critics. While many were entertained by the celebrity wedding, the couple also received criticism for what some felt was a display of extravagance amid the widespread poverty in the country. Some even accused the couple of not spending their own money for the special occasion, claiming that the event was supposedly sponsored by different people. Dantes stressed that he paid for their wedding. “Ako kasi ang thinking ko kasi diyan itong araw na ito is really for her and it’s for the sake of our families. But it’s really more for her. I really want it as a gift para sa kanya. So dapat lang naman talaga [na ako ang gumastos],” he explained. While “help” from their friends were graciously accepted, Dantes explained that the wedding was not fully sponsored. “Sabihin na lang natin na meron kaming mga naging kaibigan even before this and they are helping us in so many ways. Hindi naman pupwedeng sabihin na dole out 100% dahil negosiyo rin nila ‘yan eh and at the same time kaibigan rin namin sila.” “Siguro isipin na lang natin na nagtutulungan kami, in the same way na tinutulungan nila kami sa mga needs namin. And sana makatulong rin kami sa kanila in the future in what way or means possible,” he added. Asked how long he has saved Read More …

We were all blessed, honored and enthralled by the Pope’s visit

Pinoys all over the country hailed “ Pope Francis, mahal na mahal namin kayo!” We all felt that we were blessed, honored and enthralled by the Pontiff’s visit. From day one of his four-day visit, Pope Francis graciously accepted true Pinoy hospitality, which we are known for. He smiled and acknowledged initially receiving the lovely, fragrant sampaguita leis from TV personality, Boots Anson-Roa to President Benigno Aquino’s gift of the wood sculpture of Our Lady, the Undoer of Knots, for which Pres.Aquino was made aware of the Pontiff’s special devotion to her. At his Mall of Asia speech, Pope Francis stressed the importance of family. Families from various communities in the country spoke on their struggles in “keeping the family together.”  The Pope’s family encounter included prominent families such as the family of former Senator Francisco “Soc” Rodrigo, the family of Sixto Dizon of Quezon, who fought during the Japanese time, the family of Renato Cruz who are both deaf and whose mission is to have a ministry to empower and help those who are deaf, mute and hard-of hearing. Pope Francis lauded all of the families that spoke and recounted the memories of his family while growing up in Argentina.  His father and mother dreamt of a happy family.and on that note, he said “never lose the ability to dream, or you lose the capacity to love. It is important “to dream with your family and find solutions to family problems.” As he recalled his youth, he interjected humor Read More …

House panel waits for DOF comment on firecracker tax

Filipinos watch fireworks light up the sky to welcome in the New Year in Manila, Philippines, Saturday Jan. 1, 2011. (AP Photo/Bullit Marquez) MANILA (Mabuhay) – A proposal to regulate the use of firecrackers by imposing a 20-percent excise tax on their sale remains stuck at the House Ways and Means committee, with the Department of Finance (DOF) yet to submit its position paper on the measure. “We are awaiting the DOF position, their estimates,” said committee chairman Marikina City Rep. Romero “Miro” Quimbo. Although the panel has been deliberating on House Bill 3685 since last year, Quimbo said its passage will depend on its enforceability. “The basic philosophy is that we don’t pass a revenue measure that is not administratively feasible,” he said. The proposal, authored by Ako Bicol party-list Reps. Rodel Batocabe and Christopher Co, seeks to amend Section 150-A, Chapter VI of RA 8242, otherwise known as the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997, by imposing a 20 percent excise tax on firecrackers. Republic Act 7183, the law on firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices, only prohibits and penalizes the sale of illegal firecrackers. Representatives from the firecrackers industry have opposed the measure, saying locally manufactured firecrackers and pyrotechnics comprise only 20 percent of the market. Celso Cruz of the Philippine Pyrotechnics Manufacturers and Dealers Association of the Philippines Inc. (PPMDAPI) and Joven Ong of the Philippine Firecrackers Association (PFA) told lawmakers at the committee hearings that the local firecrackers industry will suffer if HB 3685 becomes a Read More …

Natural treatment options for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Do you usually have abdominal pain and cramping? Is this followed by soft stools and bloating of the stomach? Do you feel your stomach acting up, getting noisy and uncomfortable especially in times of stress? Do you have bouts of diarrhea or constipation? If so, you could have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). But don’t get irritated because millions of people have it. In Japan, 40% of individuals have an irritable bowel, probably from stress. IBS can be inherited and usually occurs in anxious or depressed individuals. Diagnosis and possible causes If you are looking for a weakness of medical science, then IBS is probably one. Just imagine, there is no laboratory test to confirm the disease. You can only say that a person probably has IBS based on vague symptoms like abdominal cramps, bloating, frequent diarrhea, and/or constipation. It’s a strange feeling — like you need to move your bowel again even after you’ve just been to the bathroom. Medically, doctors formulated the Rome’s criteria for IBS. If you read the standard medical textbook, there is no definite cause for an irritable bowel. They say it has something to do with “sensitive” nerves, which is a nice way of saying “we don’t know anything at all.” What about stress? Doctors are divided on whether stress can cause IBS. From my experience, stress definitely worsens symptoms of IBS, especially mental stress like work, deadlines, and life’s problems.
