JAKE Cuenca said he was disappointed when he was not named Best Supporting Actor at the recently concluded 28th PMPC Star Awards for Television. The actor said that he was hoping to clinch the award after he received positive reviews on his performance in ABS-CBN primetime series “Ikaw Lamang” opposite Kim Chiu and Coco Martin. But Jake clarified that he’s happy for co-star, John Estrada, for taking home the trophy and for “Ikaw Lamang” ending up as big winner. “Ayoko na mag-expect. Ayoko nang umasa ng ganyan. I was very disappointed. But I was happy it was Kuya John kasi kasama ko siya sa show and naghakot din (ng trophy) yung show,” he said. The 26-year-old added: “Buong buhay ko parang tuwing mananalo ako eh hindi ko ini-expect. But for that role I was kind of expecting but it didn’t happen. I had my moment with it. Then I woke up the next morning, taping and okay na. Move on na lang.” Jake said he is thankful to mother network, ABS-CBN, for his next project “Pasion de Amor” with Arci Muñoz, Joseph Marco, Ellen Adarna and Ejay Falcon. “Everything is falling into place. STREET Band Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steven Van Zandt famously said in a tribute to Clarence Clemons on his syndicated radio show: “Band members have a special bond. A great band is more than just some people working together. It’s like a highly specialized army unit, or a winning sports team. A unique combination of elements that becomes stronger together than apart.” This quote would somehow describe the band Gap 69 has for each other, for their music, they are like joint in the hip, they work as a team, they love like siblings. I had a chance of seeing their performances in some weddings and corporate events and I would definitely tell you they can capture your attention. Members include Kenneth and Cassie (vocals), RJ (Guitar) Robert (Bass), and Yoyong (Beatbox/Drums). The band was formed in December of 2011, originally known as “Musifier.” But Cassie said: “We had to replace the original guitarist who claimed that he created the name so we had to replace it too. The name was created October 4, 2012 when we had a gig at Abreeza Resto Row and we had to be introduced. We were facing GAP (Retail Company) store’s logo that says GAP 1969. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – A lawmaker is proposing the mandatory vision screening for school entrants for the early treatment of “lazy eye,” which is one of the causes of visual impairment and blindness among children worldwide. Rep. Kimi S. Cojuangco (5th District, Pangasinan) filed House Bill 5190, which seeks to create the National Vision Screening Program (NVSP) to screen the eye vision of kindergarten pupils. Cojuangco said that lazy eye, or amblyopia, is often caused by a high degree of disparity in refractive power between the eyes and that the prevalence figures range from two to five percent of all children. “The condition is treatable, with a high success rate if done before the age of 7. This declines significantly beyond that age. When the opportunity passes, amblyopic children most likely end up with permanent visual impairment. At worst, they can get blind,” she said. Cojuangco said because it is impossible for eye doctors to check every child in the country, the national vision screening is a fast and cost-effective means of checking children’s vision.
