Melissa Mendez offloaded from plane for causing ruckus

ACTRESS Melissa Mendez was offloaded from a flight on Friday for allegedly punching a co-passenger and a cabin crew. In a video uploaded by model/athlete Andrew Wolf on Instagram, he said the incident happened while they were in the middle of a flight to Pagadian City. Wolf said that a certain actress with initials M.M. threw a fit during the flight. “I’ve seen some crazy things in my life. I regularly travel on planes for work, but this has got to be probably one of the most ridiculous things that I have experienced,” he said. Wolf added: “A certain Filipina actress, past her prime may I add, decided to use our reserved seats on the plane. After being asked to move by flight attendants, the captain and even ground security she agreed to go to her seat (after 30 mins of cursing).” “Kept claiming she was some sikat na star dati with initials M.M. She smelled like a beer brewery, you just knew something was gonna happen…. Anyway, half way to our destination to talk to our programmer in Mindanao, this “actress” decided to curse continually at my friend,” he said. Wolf posted a video of a woman, who was easily recognized by the netizens as Mendez. He said the actress received warning from the flight attendants because of her unruly behavior. He then alleged that she punched his friend and cabin crew. “She was given 2 warning cards by flight attendants, but didn’t stop. She punched my friend and Read More …

Spock is dead

THE USS Enterprise has lost another of its crew. Leonard Nimoy, who played Mr. Spock, the starship’s first officer, has died at age 83. Nimoy was the original Spock in the Star Trek TV series and he carried over the half-Vulcan, half-human character to film. Hands down, Spock is Star Trek’s most beloved hero, overshadowing even his commander, Captain James Kirk. Nimoy’s passing is in many ways also Spock’s. Actor and character have become so fused the distinctions have blurred. While there have been many reincarnations of Spock, the role will always belong to Nimoy. He tried to shuck off the spiky ears and the Vulcan hand salute by taking on other movie, TV and stage roles (he also published a book of children’s stories,) but the multitude of Trekkies never let him forget that he was Spock. Nimoy himself was fascinated by Spock’s huge cult following and attributed it to the fact that people “recognize in themselves this wish that they could be logical and avoid the pain of anger and confrontation.” I grew up on Star Trek. It was in black and white, the stories were campy and melodramatic, but it teleported me to alien, exotic worlds. Starships flew at warp speed, Kirk fired phasers, and the Enterprise transported its crew by “energizing” them (“beam me up, Scotty”). Captain Kirk commanded a multinational, multiracial crew, something radical for a TV series at the time. The helmsman, Mr. Sulu, was Japanese. The navigator, Mr. Chekov, was Russian. The communications Read More …

Salonga says she is in talks on taking role in ‘Allegiance’

Lea Salonga (Photo from her Facebook page) MANILA — Tony award winner Lea Salonga said talks have not yet been finalized on her joining the cast of George Takei’s musical “Allegiance” on Broadway, but added it is a show she wants to be part of. The Broadway veteran played the lead female role Kei Kimura when the musical made its sold-out premiere in 2012 at the Old Globe in San Diego, California, “Star Trek” actor Takei’s personal and heartfelt show about Japanese-Americans imprisoned during World War II goes to Broadway this fall with him in a starring role. “Of course I’d like to be a part of it, if only to be part of something that’s very important in Broadway history,” Salonga told The Associated Press in a telephone interview late Monday. But she said things were still being discussed by her agent and the show producers, so she could not say if she will be part of the musical. “Allegiance” is multigenerational tale with two love stories that’s framed by a Japanese-American war veteran looking back on his family’s time in a Wyoming internment camp. Previews begin October 6. It will mark the first Asian-led cast of a musical on Broadway in more than a decade, since “Flower Drum Song.” The story of “Allegiance” covers an important part of American history, when tens of thousands of Asian-Americans were put in camps just because they looked like the enemy, said Salonga. “This kind of prejudice and bigotry is actually still Read More …

GMA stars thank fans in Panagbenga Festival

KAPUSO talents thanked the City of Pines for the warm welcome amid the chilly weather during the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio. The stars of afternoon soaps “Kailan Tama ang Mali?” and “The Half Sisters” capped the love month of February with a “Kapuso Night” held on Saturday at the Rambakan Drive of SM City Baguio. Locals were treated to performances by Barbie Fortez, Andre Paras, Thea Tolentino, Empress Schuck, Dion Ignacio, Max Collins and Geoff Eigenmann. “It’s always a good thing to visit our kababayans because it’s our way to give back to the fans. ‘Yung suporta na binibigay nila sa show ay naibabalik din namin through these mall shows. For me, every little thing counts. Big thing for me ‘pag nakikita ko sila na may smile,” Geoff said. For Max and Dion, their trip in the north became a sort of an annual event as they were also in Baguio for the same occasion last year. “Ang saya bumalik dito kasi mababait ang tao. Mainit talaga yung pagtanggap nila sa amin at masarap ang pagkain. Parang di buo ang regional shows namin pag di kami nakabisita sa Baguio,” Dion said. Through the mall show, Max said they were able to connect and interact with the fans and personally thanked them for the support on their respective projects. “Masaya kasi hindi lang siya trabaho kundi nakakapag-travel din kami. We get to see the fans personally and we get to experience being with them and their reactions sa show. It’s our Read More …

Oscar Night Party

IF YOU are an avid watcher of the Oscars like me, then you’ll more than likely be invited to an Oscar theme party this year. Two days before the real Oscar Awards last Feb 21, invited guests, brokers, sales agents and elite consultants gathered in an Oscar-themed party at Waterfront Insular Hotel for the Mahipus Realty Awards Night. Women brushed down their ball gown and swag bags while men put on their tuxedo to get ready for a night at the red carpet, with flashing cameras all over the place. The night was truly dedicated to recreate the glitz, glamour and excitement of the Oscars. Just as the man of the hour arrived Atty. Diosdado Angelo Mahipus Sr., his lovely wife Mrs. Rosita R. Mahipus together with son Atty. Diosdado Mahipus Jr. and the entire family, the fun started, everyone was busy catching up with each other at the red carpet, splurge on hors-d’oeuvre and cocktail picks. You can see that everyone was checking on who is the best dressed among them, and I as the host, so privileged to be part of the glitz and glamour, can’t help but feel the sensation of joy and spike of happiness as the night gets all things sparkly and golden. The night captured that film festival excitement with distinctively scene setting songs and scores from the Oscar’s, hats off to the efforts of Ms Aleiah Guhao dela Victoria and her team. Mahipus Sr. gladly welcomed guests and land developers at the party. Read More …
