The Bahay Pahingaan or rest house of President Manuel L. Quezon has been relocated from its original location in New Manila to the Quezon Memorial Circle. MANILA, Philippines – Everybody  loves a fiesta and everyone deserves a treat.  But in an urban setting where work schedules are so stressful that people are generally uptight, there has to be a good excuse for an entire city to figuratively let its hair down and celebrate en masse. Quezon City has much to celebrate as it commemorates its Diamond Jubilee on Oct. 12.  There is much to be thankful for as the city moves closer to realizing the dream of its founder, President Manuel L. (MNS Photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – “The biggest sin is to not to do anything at all.” This was the explanation given by Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla to lawmakers who are still hesitant about granting Section 71 of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), EPIRA prohibits the government from putting up power plants, but Section 71 states the President can ask Congress for authority to contract additional generating capacity if there is a looming shortage. “The President, upon determination of an imminent shortage of supply of electricity, may ask Congress for authority to establish additional generating capacity under approved terms and conditions,” the provision stated. Petilla clarified the government is not preventing the private sector from contracting additional energy, even as it seeks additional powers for President Aquino to address a shortage next year. But Petilla notes though they urged Meralco to save up to 400 MW to augment their supply, the utility firm was only able to sign up a fraction of that figure in a span of 8 months. “I told them (Meralco), gather 400MW of ILP. Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia (MNs photo) Host-singer Billy Crawford thanked his girlfriend, Coleen Garcia, for staying by his side amid the legal battle that he is now facing. Crawford narrated how Garcia helped him through the challenges he recently went through. Crawford was involved in a drunken incident in Taguig City a week ago, where he was briefly detained. He was released the following day after posting bail. The actor said he was able to face the world because of Garcia’s support. “I really wouldn’t be out now if it wasn’t for her help. When the news came out, it was a wrong accusation right away, nanakit ako ng babae. First of all, I don’t, and I never will. I was raised properly. And pinagtanggol niya ako, she means the world to me,” Crawford said. Crawford added that he hopes Garcia will be “the one” for him. “I pray every single day that she is the one. If God gave us unconditional love, that’s what I’m willing to give her as well,” he said.
