However, she also said at the time time that she wants to patch things up with Ejercito, with whom she has been romantically linked since 2011. The two, while always seen in public together, never confirmed being officially a couple, although Eigenmann, who has a two-year-old daughter with former boyfriend Albie Casiño, has been vocal of her feelings for Ejercito, saying at one point that what they have is “real love.” Eigenmann has recently been romantically linked to former child star Tom Taus, the brother of actress Antoinette Taus, although she has denied this, saying they are childhood friends. Currently, Eigenmann is part of the hit series “Dyesebel” with Anne Curtis. (MNS)

CA upholds guilty verdict vs. Neri over NBN-ZTE deal

Court of Appeals(ca.judiciary.gov.ph) MANILA, May 12 (Mabuhay) – The Court of Appeals has upheld the guilty verdict on former Socio-Economic Planning secretary Romulo Neri for misconduct in connection with the botched $329-million ZTE-NBN deal, one of the biggest controversies that rocked the Arroyo administration. Neri was the one who recommended the approval of the national broadband network deal with Chinese firm ZTE Corp. in 2007 despite the bribery allegations that hounded the project. In its decision, the CA denied Neri’s motion for reconsideration, which sought to overturn an earlier CA decision that affirmed with modification an Office of the Ombudsman resolution finding him guilty of grave misconduct. In that original ruling, the CA modified the April 21, 2009 Ombudsman decision by downgrading the administrative charge against Neri from grave to simple misconduct. The appellate court said there was no substantial evidence showing that Neri’s recommendation was “tainted with corruption.” In denying Neri’s reconsideration bid, the CA said: “From the foregoing, it is apparent that the arguments raised by the parties in their respective motions for reconsideration had been exhaustively considered and duly adjudicated by this court in the formulation of the assailed decision.” The CA said Neri failed to raise “any fresh proposition or presented new evidence which would warrant a modification or reversal thereof. Thus, to discuss again its ratio decidendi would be to belabor the issues without end.” While already final at the CA level, Neri can still elevate the case to the Supreme Court. At least two of the lists do not match, he said. “I think I have seen, iyong physically seen, I have seen two and they don’t agree with each other exactly…They supposed to have come from Mrs. Napoles,” he told reporters. “[Former] Senator [Panfilo] Lacson was telling me of another list given to him by relatives of Mrs. Napoles, ano. And, again, there is a substantial detail there that doesn’t again agree with the other two. So when you ask me: ‘Did you see a list?’ I think the best answer is I have seen physically two lists and I am told that there is a third list.” Napoles, the alleged mastermind in the P12 billion pork barrel scam, earlier submitted to Justice Secretary Leila de Read More …

Senate Majority Leader Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano (left) confers with Sen. Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV (right) and Sen. Sonny Angara before the start of the Senate Session on Monday (Jan. 27, 2014). (MNS photo) MANILA, May 12 (Mabuhay) – Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano clarified on Monday that no Senate rules will be violated if there will be hearings presided separately by Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Miriam Defensor Santiago on the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) signed between the United States and the Philippines. Trillanes is the chair of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security while Santiago is the Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. Both Trillanes and Santiago earlier called for separate investigations into the EDCA, specifically on the additional number of American troops who will participate in the Balikatan exercises. According to Cayetano, there will be no conflict if ever the two Senate committees will conduct separate hearings on the EDCA issue. Cayetano cited an instance that the Congress have had such kind of issue in the past where there was a clash of jurisdiction which was heard both by two Senate committees but not on the same period of time. Cayetano sided with Trillanes wherein his committee has a 100-percent jurisdiction over the issue of what is the content of the EDCA. On the other hand, Cayetano explained that the question of Santiago is also important since it is whether the EDCA is a treaty which should be ratified by the Read More …

Michael Kors: ‘I never imagined I would walk to a Michael Kors store in Manila’

Michael Kors with models Tian Yi, Ming Xi and Shu Pei wearing his Jet Set collection MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine STAR caught up with Michael Kors at a suite in the Peninsula Shanghai. Here are excerpts from our interview: PHILIPPINE STAR: Why did you decide to hold the Jet Set Experience here in Shanghai? MICHAEL KORS: Shanghai because when we think about the fast life, you know New York is certainly the fast life; Manila obviously is a fast, quick-paced life, but no city has the speed and the curiosity right now that you find in Shanghai. So I thought it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the idea of living the fast life. What do you think of the market here in Asia? For a designer, it’s most interesting when people are curious about things that are new, things that are changing. If women and men have so many rules and they’re not ready to experiment, quite honestly, as a designer it’s not challenging. Last night, in fact, we were out walking, and in 20 minutes, I saw two young girls, one wearing a bright yellow long dress, with a yellow handbag and then 10 minutes later, I saw another young girl in a yellow mini-dress and yellow shoes. And I said to someone I was with, “That’s incredible that we just saw these two girls wearing yellow.” And he said, “What do you mean?” I said, “Normally people would say a Chinese woman should never wear yellow, Read More …

ASEAN shows rare united front vs China

By Martin Abbugao NAY PYI TAW, Myanmar) President Benigno S. Aquino III links arms with his counterparts in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for the traditional group photo opportunity during the 24th ASEAN Summit Plenary at the Jade Hall of the Myanmar International Convention Center here on Sunday (May 11). (MNS Photo) NAYPYIDAW, May 12, 2014 (AFP) – Southeast Asian leaders have expressed “serious concern” over worsening territorial disputes in the South China Sea, presenting a rare united front against an increasingly assertive Beijing. Vietnam and the Philippines led a successful push for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to deliver a thinly veiled rebuke to China over the standoff in waters home to key shipping lanes and thought to contain huge energy reserves. But a defiant Beijing said Hanoi’s efforts to enlist the support of its neighbors in the row were “doomed to fail”. The 10-nation ASEAN, in a statement released on Monday after a summit on Sunday, called for a peaceful resolution to the maritime rows, which flared up this month after China moved an oil drilling rig into waters also claimed by Hanoi. “We expressed serious concerns over the ongoing developments in the South China Sea,” said the joint statement from the summit in Myanmar, without explicitly pointing the finger at Beijing. ASEAN called on all parties involved to “exercise self-restraint, not to resort to threat(s) or use of force, and to resolve disputes by peaceful means in accordance with the universally recognized principles of Read More …
