Chinkee Tan In boxing, the motto is most likely “It is better to give rather than to receive.” No boxer would want to receive a knock-out punch from any of his opponent. They would rather be the one to deliver the MANNY PACQUIAO knock-out punch. But when it comes to resources like time and money, is it definitely better to give rather than to receive? There may be some who believe that this motto is not applicable to time and money matters, and they have a point. If you only have 24 hours in a day and you spend a good amount of it at your job, business, with friends or even vices, it won’t be much! In fact you will probably need more than 24 hours! And if you are a minimum-wage earner, struggling to fit your family expenses into your budget, how else can you even give away extra money? Allow me to share with you the principles about giving and receiving. IT FEELS BLESSED TO RECEIVE Do you remember the time when you were a recipient of a gift, attention or anything for that matter, from someone you dearly love? How did you feel? Happy? Elated? Teary-eyed? You felt blessed, right? No one will probably contest my point that it feels blessed to receive because it really is a huge blessing to receive a smile, love, time, well-deserved paycheck, and many more. It brings happiness everything someone gives to us. But the truth is… IT IS MORE Read More …

Chinkee Tan Have you ever made a decision that you now regret making, and perhaps you are now reaping the consequences of it? Did you make that decision when you were in the midst of depression, anger, fear or envy? Was this decision made out of the pull of your emotions? “I am so mad at you right now. I hate you. I don’t want this marriage anymore!” “I am so fed up with all the workload. I give up. I’m really going to resign!” “I’m better off leaving, anyway no one appreciates my efforts around here!” “Argh! I can’t wait for the go signal of Boss! He’s so slow! I’m just gonna go ahead with the project.” We are created as emotional beings, so we cannot avoid the different emotional responses that arise in us especially with all the external sources that surround us. It is but normal to get angry, to be annoyed or to feel sad. It only becomes dangerous when we make decisions, especially major ones, when we are in the midst of or at the peak of experiencing these EMOTIONS. More often than not, the decisions we make at this point are the wrong ones and we end up deeply regretting it. Why should we NOT make a decision when we are in an emotional state? 90% OF THE DECISION IS GOING TO BE WRONG As I have mentioned earlier, since you are in a very emotional state at that moment, your ability to think Read More …
INQUIRER.net U.S. Bureau December 23rd, 2015 01:19 AM SAN JOSE, California – A translation and interpretation firm that provided services to the federal government and other clients violated federal labor laws and underpaid its nationwide corps of interpreters by $1.47 million in wages and benefits, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. A Wage and Hour Division investigation found that Monterey-based Language Line LLC failed to calculate properly overtime payments due to employees working beyond 40 hours in a workweek, a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. As a result, the division ordered the firm to pay more than $500,000 in back wages and damages to 635 employees. The division also initiated a separate investigation to determine whether Language Line paid its translators required prevailing wages and benefits when working on federal contracts covered by the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act. When the division determined that Language Line did not comply with the law, the division directed Language Line to review its federal contracts for compliance with SCA prevailing wage and fringe benefit requirements. After review, 2,428 translators nationwide will receive nearly $970,000 in back wages and benefits. “Contractors that do business with the federal government must abide by the law, pay their employees the required contractual rates and benefits, and keep accurate and complete payroll records,” said Susana Blanco, director of the Wage and Hour Division in San Francisco. “The Service Contract Act provides protections not only to workers, but also to employers who depend on the department to Read More …
Filipino champion boxer Nonito Donaire reclaimed his World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantam weight title with a unanimous decision over Cesar Juarez of Mexico. Nonito Donaire [via Philstar] In a Puerto Rico match that is described by ESPN as a Fight of the Year contender, Donaire referred to his boxing match as, “the toughest fight I’ve ever been in my life. It was an amazing fight.” The Filipino Flash controlled the first 6 rounds of the fight and twice knocked down his opponent. However, a tough Juarez kept his aggressive stance and kept exchanging blows with the Filipino boxer. In post-fight interviews Donaire admitted to injuries which slowed him down during the latter part of the match. The Filipino boxer suffered an eye cut and swelling. He was also weakened in the final rounds by a bad spill that twisted his leg. “I couldn’t throw a punch from the leg, I was only throwing shoulder punches,” Donaire told media. He was able to maintain his lead by landing punches against a furious opponent. The ring action was applauded by the audience which gave both fighters a standing ovation at the end of the match. The 5-weight division title winner won back the belt after losing it in 2013 to Cuba’s Guillermo Rigondeaux who afterwards lost the title due to inactivity, giving way to the Donaire-Juarez match for the vacant title. He said he wants a rematch with Rigondeaux. The win improved Donaire’s record to 36-3 with 23 knockouts. Related Read More …

INQUIRER.net By: Frances Mangosing, December 15th, 2015 07:26 PM AUSTRALIA has been conducting “freedom navigation” patrols in the South China Sea and an audio recording of one of the flights has been published by an international media network. BBC’s Rupert Wingfield-Hayes was flying above the disputed South China Sea using a Philippine single engine Cessna 206 which took off from Palawan, when he intercepted an Australian Air Force radioing the Chinese Navy. “China navy, China navy. We are an Australian aircraft exercising international freedom of navigation rights, in international airspace in accordance with the international civil aviation convention, and the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea, over,” Australia’s audio message said. The BBC report said the recording was obtained from a Royal Australian Air Force AP-3C Orion surveillance plane on November 25. The Chinese was given the message several times by the Australian pilot but they did respond. Australia’s Department of Defense confirmed the flight to BBC but played it down by saying it was part of a “routine maritime patrol in the region.” Australia has expressed strong support for freedom of navigation in the resource-rich sea, but it was the first time it acknowledged that it has been conducting patrols there. Hayes was on assignment to observe China’s reclamation activities in the South China Sea. Its sweeping claims and aggressive construction activities have sparked outrage from its neighbors and powerful countries like the US, Japan and Australia. The Philippines is one of the claimants of the Read More …
