Rench Soriano wins Ballet Asian Grand Prix in Hong Kong

Rench Isaac Soriano from the Dance Pull School of Performing Arts in Bacolod has won the Youth Asian Grand Prix (AGP) International Ballet Competition in Hongkong, capping the Philippine campaign with a grand win, while Ballet Manila’s Brian Sevilla took home the silver medal, and Joshua Rey Enciso received the Sansha Prize. Rench Isaac Soriano [via Asian Grand Prix] Soriano and a female dancer from South Korea bagged the grandest awards at the AGP for “exceptional talent and high standard of artistry and technique,” winning against 340 contestants from 15 countries who went through jury reviews through week-long classic and contemporary dance classes and performances at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. The Giving Café in BGC serves coffee for a cause

The Giving Café (TGC), a third wave coffee shop serving specialty blends in BGC Mandaluyong, is serving coffee to help La Trinidad, Benguet farmers sustain their operations. The Giving Café is the newest social enterprise operated by coffee solutions provider Henry and Sons (H&S) to support the company’s advocacy arm, the Foundation for Sustainable Coffee Excellence (FSCE). The TGC offers the Bloom Coffee range of specialty coffee each crafted to directly fund a specific farmer assistance program such as: The Giving Well – to fund atmospheric water generators that provide clean and potable water to farming communities Cup to Seed – to fund livelihood projects which the farmer communities can engage in between harvests Coffee for Great Minds – to fund educational needs Beans for Little Ones – to fund basic health care for children of farmers Beans Within Reach – to launch activities that connect local and global buyers to the farmers and their products “What we’re trying to do is support the farmers, to help them put Filipino Arabica back in the global spotlight. Monaco’s Tubbataha Reef exhibit to come to PH in 2017

Monaco’s Oceanographic Museum exhibit of Tubbataha Reef photography will be brought to the Philippines in 2017 through the Ayala Foundation and Ayala Malls. Tubbataha Reef [via Oceanographic Museum of Monaco] The Tubbataha Reef showcase which features 21 photographs taken by Filipinas Maria-Teresa Lara and Marissa Floirendou, and the National Geographic husband and wife team of David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes will be brought to the Philippines in 2017, according to the ABSCBN report. The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco currently runs the ImmerSEAve 360 program which allows visitors to experience the Philippines’ crown jewel of scuba diving off the coast of Palawan and seeing 72% of the world’s coral species through virtual reality. A new activity exhibit also allows museum-goers to follow the expedition of S.A.S. Prince Albert II of Monaco at the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park in 2016 which showcases the largest marine protected area in the Philippine at over 970 square kms, one of the very few reserves for seabirds, sea turtles and sharks in the region. Five Filipino street foods have been ranked in the Top 50 World Street Food Masters awarded by the 2017 World Street Food Congress (WSFC). The Pinoy sisig, lechon, pinangat, kansi beef soup, and BBQ made it to the Top 50 choices of heritage street food that started out as hawked one-dish items but have become culinary icons. The WSFC panel of widely travelled commentators, writers, food celebrities and professionals looked at dishes from around the world that are found comforting to their community, lifted from heirloom home recipes that are sold in the street and have become successful. The Nabas Wind Farm in Aklan is now regularly supplying clean and renewable power to the Western Visayas (WV) grid, thanks to 18 giant wind turbines which have also become tourist attractions in the once sleepy town. Nabas Wind Farm [via Facebook] Situated in Barangay Pawa, about 25 kilometers from world-renowned Boracay beaches, the Nabas Wind Farm is the biggest single venture of the province costing over Php4 billion. A tourism plan for the wind farm is being set up to benefit the 35,000 population of the town’s 20 barangays. The 18 turbines are part of the first phase of the project which now supplies 36-megawatt (MW) of clean power to the WV grid. Underway is the additional seven turbines which could generate an added 14 MW to the power grid, according to the PNA report. Nabas Mayor James Solanoy, in the PNA interview, said, “The project has brought economic gains and increased the tourism potential of the town.” Solanoy said, “The town is earning millions in terms of taxes. Job opportunities were likewise opened for the people of Nabas as the wind turbines continue to attract tourists, especially from Boracay.” The mayor added that most of the power generated from the wind farm that goes to the grid is supplied to Aklan especially Boracay, an island that hosted 1.7 million tourists in 2016. Do shoppers buy more if you offer them dozens off choices or would a few options suffice? When presented with a choice off six jams versus a choice off 24 jams, which would result in more sales? For many people, logic dictates that having multiple products is an advantage. I am not trying to argue for or against choices but to discover the psychological reasons behind the numbers. Would consumers buy more product, more often, when they are presented with fewer choices?
