MANILA (Mabuhay) – The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is urging President Benigno Aquino III to fire corrupt members of his Cabinet.

CBCP president Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas said Aquino should prove his “daang matuwid” or anti-corruption policy by not being selective in investigating alleged irregularities in government.

He said investigations should not exclude the allies of the administration.

“A government that professes to tread the straight path must remain true to that profession and must be willing to let go of the corrupt in its own ranks,” Socrates said.

The CBCP also called on the Commission on Audit (COA) and the Office of the Ombudsman to detail how funds from the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) were spent.

This, after the Supreme Court declared as unconstitutional specific acts and practices under the DAP.

Critics have been calling on Aquino to sack Budget Secretary Butch Abad over the DAP.

But Abad, who has also been linked to the pork barrel scam, continues to enjoy the trust of Aquino. (MNS)
