Los Angeles – A Philippine Delegation of 36 Athletes and 16 Coaches/Staff, headed by Ms. Delia A. Ortega, President and Ms. Kaye Samson, National Director of SO Philippines will join the 2015 Special Olympics (SO) World Games in Los Angeles on 24 July -02 August 2015. The 2015 SO World Games website states that the Philippine Athletes will be competing in Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Football (Soccer), Powerlifting, Table Tennis and Volleyball. The host town for SO Philippines is Santa Clarita City.
In line with the SO Games, a cultural connections festival will be featured to celebrate different regions of the world with cultural and educational programs. The program focuses on the seven days of Games-time activities between the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the World Games. Each of the seven Special Olympics Global Regions will be represented with its own dedicated day of authentic cultural performances, programming, food and other educational offerings.
In this regard, the Philippine Consulate General is pleased to announce that through the cooperation of the Kayamanan Ng Lahi Philippine Folk Arts, the Philippines is represented in the said Cultural Connection program. Kayamanan ng Lahi will have a 20 minute-performance during the Asia Pacific Day on 30 July 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the University of Southern California (USC) Alumni Park (next to the Doheny Memorial Library), 3550 Trousdale Parkway, Los Angeles, CA 90089.
The festivals are free and open to the public.
