KTLA News Anchor Cher Calvin to host Miss Philippines USA 2014

Fil-Am KTLA-TV News anchor Cher Calvin and Fox News TV personality Tony Cabrera will both host the 2014 Miss Philippines USA 2014, to be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014, 6 p.m. at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, 320 South Mission Drive, San Gabriel, California 91776. Pageant Producer and Creative Director Lou Razon of Lou Razon Designs, the mission of Miss Philipines USA (MPUSA) is to “develop the finest ambassadors of goodwill and role models for Filipino American women, to raise scholarship funds, to bring awareness on Filipino culture and become an advocate of education through charities that promote education.” The pageant’s long term objective is for the pageant’s Fil-Am winners to be recognized by participating in other worldwide and international pageant competitions. Why Piolo, Shaina decided to stay as friends

Piolo Pascual and Shaina Magdayao (MNS photo) A day after Shaina Magdayao said she does not mind being single, it’s actor Piolo Pascual’s turn to speak up about his ties with the young actress. Since last year, the Piolo Pascual although the two have maintained that they are just friends. Pascual admitted that he and the actress decided to end up as good friends. “She will always be a special friend, pero ‘yun lang. We are (still close). We always see each other at ‘ASAP.’ We have the same group of friends. Hindi naman malayo,” he said. Pascual also pointed out that they are both busy. “Honestly, pareho kaming busy. I guess what’s good with Shaina and I, we were able to keep the friendship, ‘yun ang importante. Parang in the long run, you want to be able to preserve the relationship you’ve started. Gabby Eigenmann plays gay man in ‘Dading’

GABBY Eigenmann (MNS photo) GABBY Eigenmann is ready to take his biggest challenge on television – portraying a gay man in the newest afternoon series “Dading”. In his almost two decades in the entertainment industry, he has played similar roles but the 36-year-old said this is still something new to him as the project will run for months as a regular series. The actor recalled that he was in Japan vacationing with the whole family when his manager, Perry Lansigan, told him that there’s a show lined-up for him. It become apparent to Gabby that this project is something special as he started to get congratulatory messages and tweets from co-actors and friends in the business. “Pagbalik ko, hindi ko akalain na ganito. People started texting me, people tweeting. Ako I didn’t know that it’s going to be a big deal kasi nga sa akin unang inisip ko na trabaho lang,” he said. “I’ve been patient for the longest time, and it’s not like I’m patient and not doing anything because marami naman. Singaporean, 13 Filipinos arrested for human trafficking; 36 women rescued

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities raided a recruitment agency in Las Piñas City suspected to be a front for human trafficking and rescued 36 women on Friday night. The women were believed to be victims of human trafficking and illegal recruitment after five of their companions managed to report their plight to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit. Also arrested in the operation were a Singaporean national, a certain Yvonne Phua, and 13 Filipinos. Chief Inspector Elizabeth Jasmin, CIDG spokesperson, named some of the arrested alleged illegal recruiters as a Michael Abellar and his wife Joy, a certain Eric, Emma and Mandy. The CIDG, the local social welfare office and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration conducted the joint operation at the De Castro Building in Villa Eusebia, Barangay (village) E. Aldana, in Las Piñas City at around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Jasmin said the arrested suspects were affiliated with the PEM Maid Employment Agency, which turned out to be lacking the POEA authorization to hire and send workers to other countries. “We learned that they are not registered with the POEA to operate a recruitment or training facility,” the official said. Authorities came to know of the victims’ predicament when five women, who paid their way out, reported the firm’s alleged illegal activities.
