Aquino jestingly hinted that he may not have the time to raise a family and have children of his own until after he steps down from office. Aquino was at the women’s month celebration of Coca-Cola and TESDA for the beneficiaries of their Sari-Sari Store Training and Access to Resources (STAR) program that aims to “provide access to skills training, resources, and peer mentoring” to 200,000 women sari-sari store and carinderia owners in the country by 2020. “Nang makita ko pong bahagi ng Women’s Month Celebration ang pagtitipong ito ng TESDA at Coca-Cola, naalala ko ang dating sinasabi ng mga kasamahan natin noong nasa Kongreso pa tayo: Bakit pa raw may espesyal na araw ang kababaihan, kung araw-araw namang special ang turing nila sa kanilang mga misis? (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III is refusing to apologize over the January 25 Mamasapano incident to avoid civil or criminal liability arising from a confession, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago said Wednesday. At a press conference, Santiago said Aquino was aware that he would lose his immunity from suits once his term ends in 2016. “He wants to avoid any liability arising from a confession after his term finishes in 2016. Remember that after he is no longer President, he becomes liable to all manner of suits. He loses his immunity from suit, both civil and criminal,” she said. “So he is afraid that if he apologizes, in effect, some court might consider that that is a confession admissible in law and in effect therefore he will be his own worst witness. That is why he does not want to apologize. He wants to evade any criminal or even civil liability after 2016,” she added. Various groups and several lawmakers have asked the President to apologize over the incident, where over 60 people, including 44 policemen, were killed, but Malacañang said Aquino already stated that he accepts responsibility over it. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Acting Makati Mayor Romulo Peña is seeking a dialogue regarding employees’ salaries with suspended Mayor Junjun Binay, who maintains that he is the one authorized to act on the matter. Peña is personally attending to matters to make sure the employees get their salaries, given the struggle for the top post of the city’s local government. Binay is still holding office at the new city hall, while Peña is currently at the old one. “Nagfo-focus na kaming mabuti doon sa mga dapat naming tinatrabaho regarding doon sa mga sweldo ng ating mga empleyado,” Peña said. He added: “Kinaklaro rin namin sa kanila na kami na ‘yung kinikilala ng Landbank kasi dalawa yata ‘yon, ilan ‘yung bangko namin.” The report also said Peña wants to talk to Binay regarding the employees’ salaries next payday. Poe affirmed most of the BOI’s findings and stressed President Aquino’s responsibility on the incident. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — Amid differing findings by various bodies conducting probes into the Mamasapano incident, Senator Grace Poe on Wednesday  urged the Department of Justice to expedite the completion of its investigation report. “Given the differing findings of fact, it is more imperative for the DOJ to expedite and finish its investigation, identify the culpable individuals and prosecute them,” Poe told reporters in a text message. On the other hand, the senator commended the leadership of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front for completing their investigation on the Mamasapano incident “without further delay, and (for) furnishing the Senate with a copy of the report.” On Tuesday, the MILF submitted its report to the Senate. Much earlier, the Philippine National Police’s Board of Inquiry had submitted its report to the chamber, shortly after completing its probe on the incident. Poe is the head of the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs, which led the probe on the Mamasapano incident that resulted in the deaths of 44 Special Action Force troopers, 18 MILF fighters, and five civilians. BROADWAY actress and singer Idina Menzel is coming to Manila for a one-night concert on June 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The news was shared by Menzel on Twitter. Before her Manila concert, the Tony award-winning singer/actress will perform in South Korea and Japan. She will also go to The Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, United Kingdom and the United States. Menzel, who lent her voice to animated character Elsa in Walt Disney’s “Frozen,” appeared in several movies like “Enchanted” and “Rent,” and did stage production “Wicked”.
