THE PHILIPPINE economy could get an added boost in the next six years if the Aquino administration’s successor rolls out public-private partnership (PPP) projects in the pipeline, a Department of Finance (DoF) official yesterday said.
PHILIPPINE economic growth is expected to accelerate this year, boosted by remittance flows, the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, and cheap oil, a Washington D.C.-based think tank yesterday said, though it added that the pace of expansion could remain well below the government target.

One of the most important components of beauty, both for men and women, is hair. If a man has hair and teeth, he pretty much has it all,” says Jeff Sinclair, managing director for Asia of Restora tion Robotics, the first manufacturer of a highly sophisticated robotic hair trans plant system. Speaking before the press at the elegant office of the Aivee Institute at the Fort, Sinclair explains that the ad- vanced technology of the Artas Robotic Hair Transplant system, the first in the county, provides permanent, natural- looking results “without the plugs, pain and stitches associated with traditional hair transplants.” It took nine years to develop, undergoing evolution since it started in 2002 until its approval in 2011. Male pattern baldness is the most com- mon type of hair loss in men. It is more common among male Caucasians. “In Asia, the prevalence of balding is less, but the stigma attached to balding is much higher than in western countries,” Sinclair noted. “Unfortunately, in this day and age, we are not judged only by what we say or do; we are judged merely by how we look, by our appearance.” People become bald as they age, but even if they are balding, most men still Read More …

I had to do a workshop with him for three days, five hours tuluy-tuloy,” she said. (MNS)

Madani said that the OIC supports the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law, and vowed to help in bringing all groups in Mindanao towards the peace process, “to ensure an inclusive process, which involves and benefits all.” (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Two lawmakers on Monday cast doubt on the competence of police officials who attended the day’s House hearing on the Bangsamoro Basic Law after one of them said the proposed legislation is silent on the relationship between the Philippine National Police chief and head of the Bangsamoro police. Misamis Occidental Rep. Henry Oaminal asked Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, who chairs the House ad hoc panel on the BBL, to invite ranking PNP officials, as well as Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, to the next hearing because he is uncertain whether the representatives sent by the PNP, Sr. Supt. Cesar Binag and Chief Supt. Jose Erwin Villacorte, are competent to answer their questions on the bill. Aside from Roxas, Oaminal wants PNP officer-in-charge Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Director Benjamin Magalong to attend the hearing. Oaminal was incredulous after Binag, representing Espina, said the Bangsamoro bill is silent on the functional relationship of the Read More …

At a media briefing in Camp Aguinaldo on Monday, April 20, AFP chief Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. shows the latest satellite images of massive reclamation activities by China in the disputed islands in the West Philippine Sea. Catapang said China’s ‘aggressiveness’ in the area is raising worries, particularly because the said structures have become ‘massive.’ Catapang has called on China to stop its reclamation works in the area. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – As it called on China to stop its reclamation activities in the disputed South China Sea, the Armed Forces of the Philippines on Monday said the “massive” constructions being done in the region are causing extensive damage to the environment there. At a press conference, AFP chief Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said, “China’s claim that its activities have not caused damaged to the ecological environment in the area is not acceptable.” “Massive Chinese reclamation activities are causing irreversible and widespread damage to the biodiversity and ecological balance in the West Philippine Sea,” he said. Included in the damage is the destruction of 300 hectares of coral reef systems, which “is estimated to lead to economic losses to coastal states valued at $100 million annually.” Catapang also pointed out that China “has tolerated environmentally harmful fishing practices by its fishermen” at Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough/Panatag Shoal). Bajo de Masinloc lies 124 nautical miles from Masinloc, Zambales, and 472 nautical miles from China’s nearest land mass of Hainan province. “These bad fishing practices are violations under the Read More …
