In an En Banc decision last March 2015, the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) ruled that even if a taxpayer or his duly authorized representative refuses to acknowledge receipt of assessment notices for deficiency taxes issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), personal delivery shall be considered “constructive service” provided that such notices are left at the premises of the taxpayer and such fact is attested to by at least two revenue officers other than the revenue officer who constructively served them.
This is not a story about boxing. This is not a sports article nor an analysis of who should have won the “fight of the century”. It is however, a story about good vs. evil – and I don’t mean Floyd Mayweather. While most of humanity (at least in North America and the Philippines) were glued to their television sets to see the dual between Manny Pacquiao and Money Floyd, in this part of the world, at the same time a fellow Filipina was arrested in a sophisticated immigration fraud scam that targeted mostly Filipinos. Her only motivation was greed. In contrast, Pacquiao was quoted as wanting to give some of his proceeds to charity. On one hand, there is the sense that Pacquiao was fighting for his nation and the country of the Philippines. After all, he is a congressman, and to serve and respect his countrymen must be at the forefront of his mind. Win or lose, Pacquiao will always be regarded as a hero and champion of the Philippines. A boxing title does not give someone credibility – a person’s actions do. It is for that reason that most of the world was hoping that the “good guy” would win last week in Las Vegas. It is for that reason that most of the crowd at the MGM were shouting “Manny, Manny” the entire night. For no one likes a cheater. No one likes those who prey on the innocent and who take advantage of others. Almost at the same time that Pacquiao Read More …
Gretchen Ho (MNS photo) Former collegiate volleyball player Gretchen Ho has denied that she is pregnant with Robi Domingo’s child. Ho said she is clueless as to where the rumors are coming from. “May tsismis daw na buntis daw ako. Buntis ako? Kung kailan pumayat ako, doon pa ako na-tsismis? Ewan ko kung ano ang issue nila bakit nila ako ginagawang buntis,” she said. Ho also denied that she and Domingo are planning to tie the knot real soon. “Matagal pa, matagal pa. Career kami ngayon,” she simply stated. Ho and Domingo became romantically linked in 2012. Months after, Domingo eventually confirmed their relationship. In a previous interview, Domingo said Ho helps him “discover” things about himself. “Just thinking about her makes me smile for some reason… Iba eh, being with her is a different kind of feeling. When I’m with her, I become more of myself,” he said. “I begin to discover myself more through her.” Ho, on the other hand, had said that she is lucky to have Domingo in her life. “He always encourages me and tells me, ‘Kaya mo ‘yan, you’re improving already.’ He watches my performances on TV and during events and he gives me advice dahil matagal na siya sa industry. So he tells me to not do this or do that, ganun. Very supportive,” she said. (MNS)

Vice President Jejomar Binay addresses the crowd during the 36th National Conference of Employers at Marriott hotel in Pasay City on Friday. Binay told the business community his family only has five bank accounts, denying the Anti Money Laundering Council report that he owns about 242 bank accounts. (MNS Photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) on Tuesday claimed that residents in the vicinity of the alleged “Hacienda Binay” in Rosario, Batangas, were being harassed by authorities to testify against Vice President Jejomar Binay. In a statement, UNA interim secretary Atty. JV Bautista said his party had been receiving complaints of harassment from property owners and the neighborhood of Sunchamp Ecotourism Farm, which is owned by businessman Antonio Tiu, an alleged Binay dummy. “We received pleas from some residents of Rosario, Batangas saying that they are being harassed to testify against the vice president,” Bautista said. “These people supposedly introduced themselves as National Bureau of Investigation agents.” However, a video earlier provided to the Senate by former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado showed people openly and willingly pointing to the property “of the Binays.” Bautista said residents were receiving anonymous threats, forcing them to tag Binay as the owner of the 350-hectare hacienda. “For their security, the Rosario residents originally do not want to speak up, but they are already being harassed and caught in the middle of a ‘political crossfire,’” he added. In a Senate hearing in October last year, Mercado alleged that Binay owned the 350-hectare Read More …

(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Senate President Franklin Drilon said Tuesday he has yet to decide whether there is a need for President Benigno Aquino III to meet with senators regarding the Bangsamoro Basic Law. In a radio interview, Drilon said he will consult first with his colleagues, especially Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., chairman of the local government committee, regarding the matter. “Atin pong pagpapasiyahan iyan at kokonsulta po muna ako sa aking mga kasamahan, lalo na sa Committee on Local Government sa Senado, kay Senator Bongbong, kung ano ang kanilang feeling. Maisusumite na ba ang committee report sa Senado?” he said. He believes he can make a decision before the weekends. “Tingnan po natin. Masyado pong maaga para po ako ay magpasya diyan. Ito pong llinggo na ito ay siguro we can make a decision,” he said. Aquino said Monday that he will wait for Drilon’s advice if he still needs to meet senators to explain the importance of immediately passing the BBL. Marcos, meanwhile, welcomed a potential dialogue with Aquino on the controversial measure but expressed doubt if he will be included there. “Mabuti ‘yun, at para naman masabi namin sa kanya kung ano ang nakikita naming problema. Blue Ribbon Committee chair, Sen. Teofisto Guingona III and Justice Secretary Leila De Lima reconcile after Guingona earlier admits being “disappointed” for not bringing whistle blowers during the pork barrel scam probe at the Senate on Tuesday (Sept. 24, 2013). Both parties shake hands after. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Tuesday denied reports that the Department of Justice has dropped its investigation on “Napolist,” a list of names of individuals involved in the alleged pork barrel scam. “How can we drop that, assignment iyan,” De Lima said, adding that the list was personally given to her by alleged scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles. Earlier reports said the investigation hit a snag after the DOJ failed to receive documents from the Napoles camp that would back up the list. A lawyer of Napoles, meanwhile, was quoted as saying in reports as saying that the DOJ had stopped following up on the matter. Contained on the “Napolist” are nine incumbent senators and 69 former and incumbent members of the House of Representatives who, according to Napoles, have been involved in the scam, in which lawmakers’ funds were diverted to non-existent non-government organizations (NGOs) linked to Napoles. De Lima insisted investigators are still verifying if the people on the list have indeed allowed their pork barrel funds to be siphoned off for bogus projects and if they had endorsed Napoles NGOs for the projects. “Ang pinapa-verify ko diyan ay kung yung mga yun, yung mga nasa listahan Read More …

Married with two kids, she made her presence felt once again recently, appearing on the cover of a men’s magazine last month. Patricia maintained that it is just the tip of the iceberg as she is on a mission to illuminate Filipinos on beauty and wellness. Since her arrival in Manila a few months ago with her husband, chiropractic doctor Robert Walcher and their kids, they have already embarked on numerous wellness missions. Aptly called Wellness and Beauty Mission by Patricia and Dr. Rob, they have visited around 20 places so far. “We talk about proper ways to live healthy. He feels that there could be a large number of Pinoys who doesn’t know about it. For a mother with two kids, Patricia is even slimmer now than when she entered showbiz some years ago. This is mainly due to her eating healthier said Rob. “It was Rob who told me to pose for a magazine. He told me to do it to influence other mothers out there.
