Marian Rivera open to reconciling with Heart Evangelista

Marian Rivera (MNS photo) “Wala namang problema sa akin.” This was the short response of Marian Rivera when asked if reconciliation is possible between her and co-Kapuso actress Heart Evangelista. “Tama na. Ang tagal-tagal na nun, mag move on na tayo. Mas maganda na maging positibo tayo sa buhay lalo na ngayon na buntis ako. Sa dami ng iisipin ko, parang dapat di na ito isipin. Okay na yun, let go na natin yun,” she said. Rivera and Poe worked together in GMA sitcom “Show Me Da Manny” from 2009 to 2011. In 2011, Rivera and Evangelista starred in “Temptation Island,” where their supposed rift started. Fans believe Poe and Rivera’s friendship was affected when the former got close with Evangelista. But Rivera said they’re all mature enough to let go of the past and focus their attention on other things. “Ang importante ay matured na kami at may kanya-kanya din naman kaming buhay. Ang priority ko ngayon ay yung asawa ko at yung anak ko. Mas maganda na mag move on na at maging positive kami sa buhay,” she said. (MNS)

PNoy to VP Binay: Give right facts in counter-SONA

President Aquino graces the 111th Anniversary of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) at the agency’s main office in Quezon City. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — President Benigno Aquino III on Monday challenged Vice President Jejomar Binay to stick to the facts when he delivers his speech countering Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) later in the afternoon. “One would hope he would honor his pledge to serve people, and part of that is giving them the right information,” Aquino told reporters ahead of Binay’s speech. The President nevertheless said that his critics are “free to speak their minds.” Aquino also maintained that the facts he presented in his sixth and final state address before Congress last week depicted the Philippines’ true state. “Walang akong tradisyon o record na nagsisinungaling kanino man. I stand by what I said,” he said. Binay, whose expected run for the presidency next year is being hounded by allegations of corruption, has resigned from Aquino’s Cabinet and since then has become a critic of the administration. DILG Secretary Mar Roxas III (left) chats with Senators Grace Poe-Llamanzares, JV Ejercito, and Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during the Senate deliberation on the 2015 budget of the Department of Interior and Local Government on Monday, November 24. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — After attending his bail hearing at the Sandiganbayan 5th Division for his plunder case, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada told reporters that Interior Secretary Mar Roxas is highly qualified to run for president. The detained senator, however, said that the Estradas are not throwing their support behind anyone yet. “I do not want to pre-empt President Estrada,” said Sen Estrada, referring to his father, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada. The younger Estrada said Vice President Jejomar Binay, Sen. Grace Poe and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte are also qualified candidates for the 2016. As for his own political plan, Estrada said he will focus first on his pork barrel scam cases. Meantime, at the continuation of the bail hearing for Estrada, National Bureau of Investigation special investigator Dario Sabinalo was presented by the prosecution as an expert on cybercrime. He narrated his numerous trainings in the US with software companies since he started working at the NBI in 2003. The prosecution panel offered his testimony on the files of whistleblower Benhur Luy which it claims were created on the dates indicated and have not been modified. Due to lack of time, the hearing will continue Tuesday. At the start of the hearing, 5th Division Chair Roland Jurado announced that aside from Read More …

Aquino: BIR collections for 2015 poised to hit new record high

President Aquino graces the 111th Anniversary of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) at the agency’s main office in Quezon City. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is poised to set a new record high in collections this year, President Benigno Aquino III said Monday as he commended the agency for sustaining an uptrend in revenue-gathering. In a speech commemorating the bureau’s 111th founding anniversary in Quezon City, Aquino said revenue collections are nearing the P1.5-trillion mark. The collection goal for 2015 is at P1.657 trillion. “Ngayong taon, ang sabi sa atin, puwedeng malikom o malapit nang malikom ang P1.5 trillion na isa na namang record high kapag nagkataon,” the President said in his speech. He cited the reform programs undertaken by BIR Commissioner Kim Henares and the campaign to prosecute tax evaders. “Sa inyong nakitahak sa Daang Matuwid, talagang bilib na bilib ako sa inyo. Ngayon nga po, saan ka man bumaling, makikita ang mga kongkretong patunay ng inyong mga pagsisikap: mga kalsada at tulay na naipagawa at ipinapagawa; mga nakumpletong estrukturang deka-dekadang inabangan; ang mga sitiong napapailawan at nabibigyang-patubig,” Aquino said. He called the BIR the epitome of “efficient public service.” Last week, the President also heaped praises on the BIR, the government’s biggest revenue-generating agency, in his sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA), praising the bureau for nearly doubling the past administration’s revenue collections and for breaching the P1-trillion mark in 2012. Last year, the BIR collected P1.335 trillion Read More …

Vigilantibus sed non dormientibus jura subveniunt. The law aids the vigilant, not those who slumber on their rights. Last June, no less than the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) reminded us of the truth and application of this time-honored doctrine of law in an action for recovery of erroneously paid taxes (CTA Case No. 8147 dated 22 October 2014 as amended on June 10, 2015). In this case, the taxpayer was issued a Preliminary Assessment Notice (PAN) in connection with a tax investigation covering the taxable year 2002. Due to the execution of four consecutive waivers, the PAN was issued only in 2008, or five years after the filing of the tax return.
