Marcos explained that the Senate could not yet vote on the BBL until the House of Representatives has finished tackling the proposed law. Marcos made the statement after anchor Mike Enriquez cited a “24 Oras” news report where President Benigno Simeon Aquino III blamed two senators for the death of the proposed measure seeking to create a new Bangsamoro entity in Mindanao. “Ang masaklap po, dito, tila may dalawang senador na nagkuntsabahan. Pagkatagal-tagal pong inilabas ang report ng komite. Kahit nga po sa mga huling araw ng session, ay ‘di pa tapos mag-interpellate,” the President was quoted during a campaign sortie of the Liberal Party in Iloilo City on Tuesday. Aquino, however, did not name the two senators . Marcos chairs the Senate committee on local governments which conducted hearings on the BBL while Enrile was the last to interpellate the bill’s sponsor (Marcos). Marcos said, “Siguro dapat ipaliwanag kay Pangulo na ang BBL… ay batas of local application.” “Ang rules namin, kapag law of local application kailangan antayin namin matapos sa House of Representatives Read More …
Xian Lim and Kim Chiu (MNS Photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — After playing a mistress in last year’s “Etiquette for Mistresses,” Kim Chiu gets to play another mature role in the upcoming series, “The Story of Us,” which marks her teleserye reunion with Xian Lim. Although they have appeared in several movies, including the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “All You Need is Pagibig,” the two have not made a teleserye together since “Ina Kapatid Anak” in 2012. Lim revealed that he and Chiu will have a love scene in the series. “This is a much mature role for me and Kim at ‘yun nga po ay mayroon kami dito ‘yung ganoon,” he said. “It revolves around their love story at paano nila iki-keep ang love na ‘yon kung iba’t ibang priorities ng buhay ay pumasok na sa kanilang mundo,” he said. Lim also thanked their fans for their continued support. “Maraming salamat sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa amin (ni Kim) at hindi kayo bumitiw. Ang tagal na two or three years ago ang last namin ni Kim na nakita sa television,” Lim noted. During the interview, Lim was still obviously in cloud nine after he received positive feedback for his performance in the movie “Everything About Her” with Angel Locsin and Vilma Santos. That’s why he promises to give his best in the upcoming series. “Sa lahat po ng project ko ay ibinibigay ko ang buong pagkatao at buong kaluluwa ko, lalo na dito sa susunod na project,” said Read More …

REMITTANCES likely contracted in December, reversing the seasonal surge in money sent home by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), analysts at ANZ Research said, noting that such a decline would make the 2015 growth rates lower than the year earlier.
THE GOVERNMENT should continue forging trade agreements, investing in public infrastructure and implementing El Niño mitigation measures to sustain growth this year, the Finance department’s chief economist said.
Of the P3.002-trillion national budget, P702.9 billion is intended for infrastructure in 2016. The P702.9-billion capital outlay budget represents 23.4% of the 2016 total budget, and represents a 29.8% rise from 2015. According to the government, the programmed increase of infrastructure spending will bring the Philippines almost at par with the global benchmark of 5% infrastructure spending. Robust spending is good for the economy as it aims to link lagging communities to growth centers and people to opportunities. A significant increase in infra spending is also expected during this election year. Thus we see ongoing government projects all over the Philippines in various stages of completion.
The sudden change of hearts of 64 Congressmen who recently signed a resolution to override President Aquino’s veto of the proposed P2000 SSS pension hike came a bit too late. It is good to know that a number of lawmakers crossed party lines to sign the petition to give additional financial assistance to retirees. They could have done it on the last day of their session before Congress adjourned in preparation for the May 16 elections. President Aquino rejected a proposed bill seeking to increase the monthly social security pension of retirees, claiming that it will have dire financial consequences for the entire membership of the Social Security System. He claimed that the stability of the benefit system of social security will be seriously compromised once the P2,000 hike is implemented. What President Aquino should’ve done a long time ago if he is really serious in protecting the financial stability of SSS is to slash the excessive bonuses given to social security executives amounting to millions of pesos annually. On top of their huge bonuses, these overpaid executives appointed by a sitting president are getting so many perks, including car and gasoline allowances. This is absurd. Everyone knows that the SSS, for so many years, has been in good financial standing and can even afford to give huge salaries and bonuses to its executives. Meanwhile, Social Security retirees who depend on their monthly income to sustain their daily living, will have to wait until Congress resumes its session in the Read More …

Leni Robredo Thursday by urging voters to elect leaders with a proven track record instead of gambling the country’s future by choosing untested politicians. Speaking at the forum of the Liga ng mga Barangay at the Philippine International Convention Center, Aquino called the team-up of Roxas and Robredo as the only “real” tandem who will be able to sustain the gains made by the administration. Human rights advocates hold a protest rally commemorating the 43rd anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law at the Mendiola Peace Arch on Monday. The protesters urged the government to uphold human rights and immediately address extra-judicial killings in the country. (MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — Vice presidential aspirant Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday said a public apology for martial law that his critics are demanding from him will not put closure to that dark part of the country’s history. “Ako, tanggap ko. Lahat naman ng administrasyon may nasaktan, may naiwanan. Ganun din siguro sa administrasyon ng tatay ko. Pero siyempre nangyari ‘yan sa administrasyon ng tatay ko,” Marcos said, referring to the late dictator, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. The older Marcos declared martial law in 1972 during which many activists were allegedly killed or abducted, while several others were allegedly raped or abused. Marcos was reacting to the statement of a group of martial law victims, who has recently launched what they dubbed as the “Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacañang” or CARMMA. On its Facebook page, the group said “CARMMA aims to torpedo the VP aspiration of Bongbong Marcos through public information and mass actions.” The group said their mass actions “will hound Marcos wherever he goes” as they will try to maximize their “exposure” on the tri-media (print, radio and television) as well as on the new media or the internet. The group demanded that Marcos acknowledge the abuses committed during Read More …
