Comelec chief: Polls to push through May 9

Workers of the National Printing Office (NPO) wait for the resumption of printing of the 2016 official ballots, Thursday. The printing of the ballots was stalled due to a complaint filed by presidential candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago due to the exclusion of the name of her party on the printed ballots.(MNS photo) MANILA  (Mabuhay) – Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista on Thursday said the national elections will push through on May 9, despite its opposition to a Supreme Court decision requiring the poll body to print voter receipts. Bautista gave the assurance during oral arguments at the SC on the activation of the voter verification paper audit trail (VVPAT) feature of the vote counting machines for the May polls. The poll body chief gave the comment following a question during interpellation by Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, who wrote the decision on the VVPAT petition. “Are you up to the challenge to make sure that even with the receipt, that you will do all you can in order to meet all of these problems? Or are you giving up?” asked the magistrate. “No. We will do all we can,” responded Bautista. The poll chief said they will “try our best” to follow whatever decision the high court would render on the VVPAT issue and ensure there will be credible polls. Leonen pressed further to elicit a categorical answer from Bautista that the elections will push through on May 9. “You will do your utmost, given your exemplary capabilities, to make Read More …

Jolina collaborates with Vice, Gloc 9 in new album

Jolina Magdangal (MNS photo) Jolina Magdangal is officially back in the recording scene and the singer-actress could not help but rave about her experience collaborating with other artists. In her brand new album “Back to Love,” Magdangal had duets with singers like Yeng Constantino and Kyla, rapper Gloc 9, and comedian Vice Ganda. Magdangal said: “Parang feeling ko ‘yung sa akin, very easy listening lang ako na straight singing. Tapos sasamahan mo ng Kyla with R&B, ng Gloc, so nag-iiba ‘yung tunog.” Magdangal said she had fun collaborating with them because they were able to put a twist to her previous hits, like “Chuvachoochoo 2.0,” which features Vice Ganda. “Yung kay Vice, bago siya nag-record, nag-usap kami kung puwede daw ba siyang mag-adlib sa kanta. Sobrang okay kasi ‘yung recording, masaya siya,” she said. “Yung with Gloc, nag-iba talaga yung tunog ng ‘Kapag Ako’y Nagmahal.’ Favorite ko talaga ‘yung kanta na ‘yun so okay na ni-remake ko na rin siya,” she added. Since her album contains mostly breakup songs, Magdangal said it felt weird while she was recording because she doesn’t feel any tinge of sadness at all. “Ano na kaya ang feeling ng malungkot? Kasi ngayon ang feeling ko lang, I’m just very grateful, thankful. Minsan, ‘yung pagkanta na lang ng malulungkot na kanta, doon ko na lang nafi-feel na ganito pala maging malungkot,” she said. Asked how the new album is different from her older ones, she said: “I can say na dito sa album na ito, naging Read More …

It is basic in criminal law that all the elements of a crime must be proven beyond reasonable doubt to produce a conviction. Where the life, liberty or property of a person hangs in the balance, the degree of proof is moral certainty and the prosecution must rely on the strength of its own evidence to show the existence of guilt. In a recent decision promulgated on Jan. 4, the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) sitting en banc had the opportunity to settle the issue of whether the officers of a corporate taxpayer may still be held solidarily liable for the civil liabilities attached to a tax offense even if they are acquitted in the criminal aspect of the case.

Marian, Dingdong want more children in two years

Marian Rivera (MNS Photo) Marian Rivera has returned to “Sunday Pinasaya” after giving her to Baby Letizia. She has also shot for a new TV ad. She admits her and Dingdong’s first born already got offers for endorsements. “But we begged off kasi sobrang liit pa ng baby namin,” she said. “Pero open naman kami to such offers, kaya lang, later na siguro. Gusto muna naming lumaki siya. Hindi naman sa we’re trying to hide her from the public. Maski nga sa binyag niya, kakaunti lang talaga ang inimbita namin kasi hindi naman artista yung anak namin.” “At siguro nga may pagka-stage mother ako kaya protective ako sa kanya. Kung puede sana, maging endorser siya sa edad na pwede na siyang tanungin: Anak, gusto mo ba? At siya na ang sasagot kung gusto niya, ‘Yes, mommy,” she added. So do they intend to give her a baby brother or baby sister soon? “Siguro in two more years. Dream namin to have a big family but we want to enjoy her muna. Pero kung ipagkakaloob kaagad sa amin ng Panginoon, okay rin lang po.” (MNS)

Unlike other presidential candidates, there are no uncertainties when it comes to Roxas, Aquino, chairman of the ruling Liberal Party (LP) said. The LP vice-presidential candidate is Camarines Sur Rep.
