Walang iba,” Escudero said at a press conference at the Senate when asked if he thinks administration standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II is capable of rigging the polls. When pressed if he thinks Aquino and Roxas would allow cheating to mar the elections, Escudero, who is running for vice president, only vouched for the President’s character. “Hindi ako close kay Secretary Roxas. Kaya ko lamang magsalita sa pagkakakilala ko kay Pangulong Aquino. Ang sagot ko ay hindi at umaasa ako na hindi at hindi siya nagbago,” he said. Roxas, on the other hand, dismissed Escudero’s statement, saying it is not based on facts. “Itong mga paratang ay mga salita ito ng mga wala namang pinanghahawakang pruweba,” Roxas told reporters in a separate media briefing. Roxas also questioned the timing of Escudero’s statement, noting that he could have raised concerns on the conduct of the presidential elections through a Senate investigation. “Bakit ngayon nalang lumalabas ‘yan? Itong schedule ng 2016 election ay matagal nang alam. Lahat ng paghahanda, dumaan sa pagsusuri ng Read More …

Alex admits past crush on Enchong

Alex Gonzaga (MNS photo) Alex Gonzaga admitted she had a crush on Enchong Dee when she first saw him during an acting workshop. Gonzaga shared that she used to attend acting workshops with Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson and Dee when she was still starting out in showbiz. “Wala pa akong mga show noon so pagpasok ko, parang hindi talaga ako artista noon kasi nag-aaral pa ako. Sila may mga show na. Tapos si Enchong biglang lumapit sa akin. Sabi niya, ‘Halika, tayo na lang ang magsama.’ Tapos hindi niya alam na crush ko siya noon kasi nga chinito siya. Sabi ko, ‘Ay o sige, tayo na lang ang magsama.’ So lagi kaming magkatabi noon,” she recalled. Enchong Dee (MNS Photo) That first meeting immediately transformed into a close connection as Gonzaga and Dee became best friends through the years. “Noong time na kinausap ako ni Enchong, friends talaga kami. Noong nakita ko lang siya na naglakad sa harap, sabi ko cute,” she said. “Enjoy kaming kasama, sobrang enjoy. Rita Avila’s book encourages children to become ‘angels on earth’

Rita Avila (MNS Photo) Grief can consume us leading to depression. It is how we deal with grief that spells the big difference in our earthly life. This somehow is the underlying philosophy that actress Rita Avila wants to impart to people in general and not only to readers of her books. You see, she is not only a talented and awarded actress, she is also an author. All the grief she felt when she and husband TV director Erick M. Reyes lost their son Elia Jesu (named after Erick’s favorite director Elia Kazan) to congenital heart ailment when he was only three-week old, she translated into something positive. She transformed all those sad feelings into an inspirational book entitled “8 Ways to Comfort With Grace.” Rita doesn’t just write books – she writes them with a purpose. For instance, her first book, “Si Erik Tutpik at si Ana Taba,” which was actually based on her and Erick’s childhood experiences, is about children who experienced bullying. When they were young, Erick was thin, while Rita was chubby. So naturally, they were subject to bullying. After this, Rita started number one of her “The Invisible Wings.” And just this year, she came out with number two, “The Invisible Wings 2 (Little Sacrifices and Rewards),” which she dedicated to “our angel son, Elia Jesu E. Reyes” and starring once more Mimay, Popoy and Pony who wanted to become “angels on earth.” Most Rev. Honesto F. Ongtioco, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Read More …

Who Are You Voting For This 2016 Elections?

Chinkee Tan I am often asked, both online and offline, who I will be voting for this coming elections. Instead of telling you who my personal choice is, I would rather share with you what my basis is for choosing a leader.   This blog is in no way meant to change your personal choice when it comes to your own vote. However, since we are choosing a leader who will lead our country for the next six years, I think it is only wise and fair for us to ask this question: “What are the qualifications of a great leader?” I believe that the best way to know the answer to this question is to look at the two most successful leaders in the Bible. THE RIGHT HEART Let’s first look at King David – the one who killed Goliath. Psalms 78:72 “And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skilful hands he led them.” I believe that integrity of the heart is the first qualification of a great leader. What are his or her true intentions for leading? Is it to serve the people’s interest or to serve only one’s own personal interest? Is it to simply gain power or to use one’s appointed power for the benefit of the many? Is it to make oneself wealthy or to enable the country experience wealth and economic success? It is the heart that dictates what a person will do in his or her life. This is why it Read More …
