Jodi confirms split from Jolo Revilla

Jodi Sta. Maria (MNS Photo) Jodi Sta. Maria and Jolo Revilla have split, the actress confirmed to reporters Tuesday at the sidelines of a press conference for her upcoming film, “The Achy Breaky Hearts.” Sta. Maria, 34, did not go into details about the breakup but said that she and Revilla, the vice governor of Cavite, remain friends. Rumors about their split first surfaced after Revilla accidentally shot himself on the chest back in February 2015 following the arrest of his father, Senator Bong Revilla. According to a report, Revilla and Sta. Maria had decided to call it quits six months earlier. The rumors, however, died down after the two refused to speak up about the issue, and Sta. Maria was seen with Revilla as he recovered from his self-inflicted gunshot wound. It also appeared that the two had ironed out their differences after they were spotted at a local cafe last June 10. Sta. Maria first confirmed her relationship with Revilla in late 2012. Prior to Revilla, Sta. Maria was also in a relationship with Pampi Lacson, with whom she has a son. (MNS)

2016 Outlander Sport awarded NEMPA Yankee value award for second consecutive year

2016 Outlander Sport SEL CYPRESS, Calif  – Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) today announced the 2016 Outlander Sport has once again been recognized by the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) and awarded the Yankee Value Award for the second consecutive year. Outlander Sport was honored at NEMPA’s annual awards dinner in Cambridge, Mass. where the 2016 Winter Vehicle Awards were presented. “Outlander Sport continues to prove why it’s our sales leader,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president and chief operating officer, MMNA. “Reliability, quality, competitive pricing and cost of ownership are at the core of Outlander Sport; to be recognized for providing exemplary value in such a competitive CUV segment proves Mitsubishi is providing consumers with what they not only want, but need.” The Yankee Value Award is presented to the vehicle that best exemplifies the hardy New England spirit of understated perseverance – and NEMPA takes its Yankee heritage seriously. To consider a vehicle for the Yankee Value Award the membership must be impressed with the vehicle as a “value proposition.” That rings true with the 2016 Outlander Sport, a vehicle that offers a variety or features and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty that continues to grab consumers attention in the competitive crossover segment. Earlier, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander, recognized for having over 100 improvements as compared to the 2015 model-year, has been rated third in Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com list of 10 Most Affordable Three-Row Vehicles of 2016. PHL urged to invest more in higher education to achieve inclusive growth

By Leslie D. Venzon President Benigno S. Aquino III huddles with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) officials, headed by Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo, for a snap shot during the courtesy call at the President’s Hall of the Malacañan Palace on Monday (June 20).(MNS photo) MANILA, June 22 (PNA) – The country needs to invest more in higher education and skills training that can contribute to inclusive growth, according to a study by state think tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS). PIDS consultant Dante Canlas said new jobs in new industries, such as those in information and communications technology (ICT), have emerged. He said the demand for highly productive jobs increases as other industries innovate and grow by adopting ICT in their processes. “It is thus important for public policy to ensure that access to higher education and skills training required by these new jobs are expanded and equalized. Otherwise, income inequality gets perpetuated as the economy continues to grow,” he added. However, Canlas noted that entering college depends on the ability of a family to pay and not on the ability to learn, “a situation that needs to be corrected to make growth that is driven by higher education inclusive.” “If public policy can adequately address the phenomenon of missing financial markets for college education, then the likelihood of achieving inclusive growth from investing in higher education rises profoundly,” he said. In pursuing inclusive growth, Canlas underscored the need for the Commission on Higher Education Read More …

The Liberal Party standard-bearer’s spokesperson and Akbayan Rep. Barry Gutierrez and the party’s counsel Romulo Macalintal filed the campaign expenses report on his behalf at the Comelec office in Manila. In his expenditure report, it showed that Roxas spent P487 million in poll expenditures and received P469 million in contributions. Explaining the reason behind the delay, Gutierrez earlier said they had to go through “voluminous number of receipts” that have to be scanned and attached to the documents. Rizal Hall can’t accommodate media for Duterte’s inauguration, says Palace official

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte takes a selfie with members of his Cabinet after their first formal meeting in Davao, Tuesday evening. Duterte presented to the media for the first time the members of his Cabinet, whom he called “men of honesty and integrity.”(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — No media organization will be allowed inside Malacañang’s Rizal Hall for the inauguration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte on June 30, because of limited space, incoming Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said. “Yung plano, as of now, dun sa Rizal Hall, ay RTVM ang lead doon,” Andanar said referring to the Radio-Television Malacañang (RTVM), the official videographer of presidential activities. All other journalists and media workers are permitted to cover at the New Executive Building, the working area for the Malacañang Press Corps. “Lahat naman ng media bibigyan ng accreditation. Of course, you can monitor it dito sa inyong building sa New Executive Building,” Andanar said. “Talagang masikip lang talaga sa loob… ng Rizal Hall. Hindi siya ganun kalaki ang espasyo…So, iyong atin namang mga kasamahan sa RTVM ay sanay naman sila sa mga broadcast pool. So, I think you will not have a difficult time,” Andanar added. Duterte earlier said he will not give the press any interview until the end of his term, after he had a falling out with the media regarding his comments on media killings. Andanar, however, said he was confident that Duterte will be the “darling of the press” once certain adjustments on both sides are made. According to the Read More …

The canvassing of votes was completed Friday evening.(MNS photo) MANILA (Mabuhay) — Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) senior Commissioner Christian Robert Lim has formally stepped down as head of the poll body’s campaign finance office. In a letter filed Monday afternoon, Lim tendered his “irrevocable” resignation following the “policy shift” that allows candidates and political parties that failed to meet the June 8 deadline to still file their statements of contributions and expenditures (SOCEs). Lim, in his capacity as CFO head, recommended that the en banc deny giving such extension, in particular the request filed by the Liberal Party and its standard-bearer Mar Roxas. The poll body, however, ruled to grant the parties an extension until June 30 via split vote, 4-3. This allows filing without penalties. “Given the Commission’s policy shift resulting from granting the request for extension without any sanctions on the erring candidates and parties—which I had expressly dissented from and is now incongruent with my own views on the matter—I believe that I am unsuitable to continue with my duties both as the concurrent head and Commissioner-in-Charge of the Campaign Finance Office,” Lim wrote in a memorandum to the en banc. The commissioner thanked his staff at the CFO, as well as field officers, “for their tremendous efforts to enforce campaign finance Read More …
