MANILA (Mabuhay) — Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile was rushed to the hospital early Wednesday morning due to dengue.
Katrina Ponce Enrile, who is now in the United States, said her father was brought to the Makati Medical Center past midnight.
“He has dengue,” the senator’s daughter said in a separate text message.
“His platelet went down already. They are monitoring it naman. (He was rushed to the hospital) a few hours ago, about seven hours ago,” Katrina said.
She said the senator is under medication and being closely monitored.
“I guess the doctors are going to … monitor him. He has to rest. He is already on IV fluid,” she said.
She added no visitors are allowed for the time being. “Huwag muna (siyang bisitahin), we have to monitor him muna,” Katrina said.
Enrile is facing plunder and graft charges in connection with the alleged pork barrel scam.
On August 18, the Supreme Court granted Enrile’s petition to post bail.
Two days later, Enrile posted bail for his temporary liberty. He had been under hospital arrest at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame since July 14 when he surrendered to authorities to face the charges against him.
Enrile is accused of amassing P172.8 million worth of kickbacks from the pork barrel scam but on Monday, prosecutors admitted that they have no evidence indicating the senator personally received kickbacks.
Earlier this month, the Office of the Ombudsman asked the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision on Enrile’s bail petition. (MNS)
