Detained businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles’s team of private doctors may operate on her at the government-run Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) by Sunday.

On Friday, OsMak doctors met with Napoles’s team of doctors to discuss the medical procedures that will be performed to remove a cyst in her uterus, for which a Makati court allowed her to seek treatment. The OsMak doctors also turned over the results of medical tests that they have done on her.

“We discussed liability and accountability as attending physicians…The liability and accountability will now fall on the laps of the attending physicians of Mrs. Napoles,” announced OsMak director Dr. Perry Ishmael Peralta in a press conference aired on GMA News’ “24 Oras” Friday evening.

It may take one to two days for Napoles’ doctors to review the results of the medical tests, thus, the operation might be performed on Sunday, the report said.

“Ang request naman ng team (ni Napoles), which we gave in to, is they would like to review all the tests that we’ve performed. They would like to reexamine Mrs. Napoles before we can really set a date for the procedure,” Peralta said.

Napoles’s doctors meanwhile said they will just review the results turned over by OsMak. However, doctors from St. Luke’s Medical Center may also conduct additional screenings to ensure that Napoles would not suffer any complications from the medical operation, “24 Oras” said.

Earlier laboratory test results showed Napoles has a cyst in her uterus. She has also complained of abdominal pain and bleeding.

Napoles’s medical team comprises gynecologist Dr. Elsie Badillo Pascua, gynecologist-oncologists Dr. Efren Domingo and Dr. Leo Aquilizan, endocrinologist Dr. Michael Lim Villa, and cardiologist Dr. Nick Cruz. The names of her anesthesiologist and pulmonologist have not been made public.

OsMak Director Peralta said the hospital’s doctors will also assist in the operation.

On Wednesday, Makati Regional Trial Court Judge Elmo Alameda authorized private doctors to attend to Napoles’s medical needs, which may include performing surgical procedures.

Prior to the order, only doctors from OsMak were allowed to see Napoles. Alameda has perviously said Napoles must shoulder her medical expenses.

Alamedastressed in the order that Napoles’ period of confinement at OsMak shall cover only the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative procedures, more or less 26 days, barring complications.

Peralta said that they will not allow Napoles to stay at OsMak longer than necessary. He said that apart from the the government doctors who will assist in the operation, a separate team will also be assigned to monitor pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative procedures.

“We will monitor, we will observe, yung procedure na gagawin, yung management na idedeliver at treatment na iaafford kay Mrs. Napoles,” Peralta said. Elizabeth Marcelo/JDS, GMA News
